So, I was out hoping to shoot the moonrise but it was a bit cloudy.

So I found another subject for my SMC-K 500mm/f4.5.

It was a bit dim but I got this fellow. I reckon he was about 1/4 mile away. Not too bad considering the lens and poor light. Can't remember the aperture.

Cheers

All I want is a digital back for my trusty K1000 . . .

A little front focused?
Yes, I think it might be, the straw looks quite sharp in front of the rabbit. Unfortunately focussing wasn't so easy in the dim light :-)

Cheers

Did you have any fringing on this photo? I usually do but pretty simple to remove.

Steve
Hi Steve, I haven't done any processing to remove fringing. I haven't took many shots with this lens as it's not something you carry round much, but I've never noticed any.

thanks for looking,

Rod

Pentax AF TC 1.7x can help you with focusing significantly :) Try that thing... I like them. Have two pieces :D

btw it magnifies the central part of image circle, so in some cases result is better than what old lens alone can produce. It also has SMC coatings which help to reduce some refections that old lenses show when they project light directly on shiny digital sensor.

An interesting claim!

Perhaps you could do a post demonstrating this?

Actually the SMC coatings do nothing in the way of anti-reflection off a digital sensor only the newer HD coatings do that. They may be an improvement over the even older Super Takumar or Takumar coatings but not a lot. My Pentax days go all the way back to manual focus and film and everything from then to now. The coatings, especially on the rear elements closest to the sensor, require a different mix than what is in the front of the lens. I am also familiar with the differences between Sigma EX and Sigma EX DG (DG is their digital coatings group although they also changed electronics during that upgrade). Also the Pentax F 1.7x AFA TC was only made pre-digital era. Any that may have been sold after that were NOS as far as I know.

Oh god, please explain me how my Pentacon lenses behave on my SMC AF 1.7x TC adaptors and how SMC us useless on digital while magical HD coating is so different...

Yes I love guys that have zero experience with that telling me stuff like this.. really. Please continue...

For your info that teleconverter has all elements coated with SMC and both SMC and HD coatings or T* caoting or whatever is just metal layer evaporated on the glass. There is no magic there. And it is improving over the time, sure, but saying that adding bunch of SMC elements at the end of old lens does nothing.. yea that is just pure lie.

If you can handhold that 500mm lens your biceps are bigger than mine :-)

Its a beast.

Needless to say it was on a tripod . . .

I do have a 1.7 AFA.

I never found using it significantly better than cropping the image without the adapter.
