"We're doomed"... C-3PO - Star Wars Episode IV

Ok, sorry for the clickbait title, but I've seen so many we're doomed threads for years, predicting the doomsday arrival for Olympus, Panasonic or even m43 as a whole, and they keep going and going, stronger and stronger.

Maybe this time the only difference is that Panasonic is diversifying the camera offerings to an FF option. Even announcing new lenses for m43, so they are not leaving the m43 format. At least for now. In fact, It wouldn't make too much sense to abandon their flagship video rig, which is the weapon of choice of so many youtubers and filmmakers.

So, let's not call it quits just yet, and lets "learn how to stop worrying and love the bomb"

Ok, enough movie references :D

Doomed -- Not a chance.. I have a crystal ball that told me so. ;-)

I can't choose between the GH5, BMPCC4K as my next video camera... Do I go for stabilization or video... Or go I get the GH5s??

For stills I am completely honest when I say I don't know what the fuss is about. The 20mp sensor in the EM1.2 is superb and used by me for corporate shoots around the world. In fact T-fal just licensed my images shot in Canada for worldwide use... all on a "tiny" 43rds sensor.

:)

if we are all doomed then lets stop worrying and enjoy the end of the world! :D

The last time that Thom Hogan looked at Nikon interchangeable-lens camera unit sales, he concluded that only 18% of it was FF. FF gets a lot of hype, but in the real world the overwhelming majority of camera buyers buy something else.

I've just given away my last m4/3 camera, but for some reason I find myself compelled to hang out in the dpr m43 forum. I think it's that watching the battles between the bitter ex m43-ers and the delusional m43 fanboys is more interesting than the camera news at the moment.

i've owned 2 systems that have become obsolete, dead, extinct or whatever you want to call them, does it stop me taking pictures? Does it stop my fun and enjoyment of photography? Absolutely not.....stuff happens and nothing is guaranteed but why worry about it or get annoyed....makes no sense if the main goal is the actual end result

Sounds like a wonderful use of your time ;) I am sure you will look back in a few years and think "I wouldn't have had it any other way".

Yeah, nothing better to do tbh. But really observing the psychology going on is fascinating. In my experience, it doesn't happen in other manufacturers gear forums, only m43.

You've got a group of people on a spectrum of commitment. At one end there's those who frequently tie themselves into logical knots to convince themselves that the commitment is rational. They make posts here to try to stop others slipping along the spectrum and losing 'the faith'. Then you've got those who have slipped, and are now bitter about it and need to argue to pull others their direction to reinforce their opinion. All over the perceived 'quality of a camera system'.

I'm probably not the only one with nothing better to do :>

I saw the end of m4/3 coming so I picked up some 35mm film for an old Pentax SLR so I could keep shooting.

If anyone is embarrassed about having these obsolete m4/3 lenses still hanging around feel free to send them to me. I'll dispose of them properly :-)

A bit of fun, and encouragement that we are still alive and well. Although fun seems not to be everybody's cup of tea, I suppose.

You've only covered 1/2 the spectrum. At the positive end there are the majority of us who love our m4/3 gear, don't need to justify ownership to anybody including ourselves and if given the opportunity would buy the same kit again because we know there is no better alternative out there that meets our needs as well as m4/3s.

The problem with this sub is people spend too much time talking and not enough time taking photographs. In my experience people who talk a lot end up getting bored so they are attracted to drama.

Death is a dramatic topic.

And the unanswered question: to where shall the reality-oriented fan adults turn? Where, good sir?

Dad
