Hello this Christmas morning,

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some advice about their experiences with the Rx100-vi and how to avoid damaging it.

So far, I've seen that the leather case button is easy to flick right into the lens. SMACK!

Additionally, that same leather case seems to me to be too small and it really takes a lot to get it over the lens. Probably not to you that use it, but to me it feels like over time this is going to rub away some of the finish.

If there is anything you can add, it could help.

(Clumsy, drop, dropped, fell, bump, bumped, scratch, scratched, scratches, nick, nicked, nicks, lint).

Sounds to me that at the very least you should have a wrist strap on your camera.

Merrylk Christmas to you.

I use this adjustable wrist strap in all my cameras.

I leave it dangling out of the case, and put my hand thru it before I pull the camera out of the case. Same thing if in my pocket.

You slide the button to snug it up to any size wrist. I let my grandchildren use my rx100.

As for a case, take the long and large view, several in-expensive solutions, various portability:

I use a nylon eyeglass case in my pants/jacket pocket as a dust sock.

I have a very snug belt case, fits lens cloth and extra battery. Can fit big pants pocket, or belt.

slightly bigger belt case with pockets for:

Camera, extra battery, extra memory stick, lens cleaning cloth, filter adapter with CPL for outdoor. Ease to get camera in/out, and, leave the wrist strap sticking out when you zip it up.

The camera came with one of these.

It also came with double eye-loops <to> regular camera strap. I've decided to take the strap from the leather carry case and place it directly to the camera instead. Because during use, the case is flopping all over the place...

Do you have any kind of google or amazon images of that stuff? Sounds interesting.

It comes with a standard, non-adjustable wrist strap.

The one I referenced adjusts, a plastic 'button' slides up to reduce the opening to fit any wrist. In that position, a drunk in a bar, a football thrown from afar, you can get the crappola knocked out of you and you can let go with your hand, it will stay on your wrist.

the style eyes sunglasses case is waterproof, it has a hook, I use it on the beach, I hook it onto a spoke of the beach umbrella, keeps it out of the sun, away from kids, water, sand, and you put it in/take it out standing up.

the nylon drawstring dust bag, I bought a dozen on ebay for next to nothing

the compact leather belt case I took from a small pair of binoculars I have. The one on the right is the last one described, fits extra card, battery, lens cloth, CPL filter, still compact.

I go to goodwill, unique, garage sales, haven't ever bought a legit camera bag new, but have some nice ones for my other cameras I found.

Great! Those are all possibilities.

Use a wrist strap and a pouch the fits on your belt. I've been carrying my 6+ year old RX100 this way and, except for a slight amount of paint worn off on the edges, it's in like new condition.

Forget the case. Add a glue-on Sony grip and a small Nikon wrist strap. I carry mine in a clean lint-free vest or jacket pocket (put in zip lock bag if needed).

+1 Don't see the point of a case. It just makes the camera bulkier for your pocket.

I keep my RX100 III in a Lowepro Tahoe 10 in the center console of my car. It holds the camera and a spare battery snugly. When I want to use the camera, i remove it from the pouch and put it in a pocket. Others here use the Tahoe 10 as a belt pouch.

I'm not sure I would be comfortable adding a grip.

I did see this one on ebay

, but it defeats my current leather case. I suppose I could sell the case and just go with something thin and be cognizant that I have a camera with me.

(It might also confuse me about which camera I'm using, the VI or the II... j/k).

Thanks. That's low-key too. That could also be a plus I think.

That one is huge, for specific use, Focus Shift was suggesting the simple Sony Grip, which I also recommend.

Don't put it in your pocket. Using a case, especially one that attaches to your belt loop, is an alternative to putting it in your pocket. I tried the pocket method in a ziplock bag with my RX100 and hated it because I didn't like the feel of a heavy for its size camera. For me zippered belt pouch worked out much better and it's also quicker for me to remove from the belt case than reaching in my pocket. I also have the stick on sony grip attached to the camera which makes the handling much better.

I believe you mean Robert111.
Yes, thanks, F S is OP I now see, and Robert111 was the one recommending the sony grip.

I used my m1 without a grip for years, because I was secure with my snug adjustable wrist strap, but, I got the Sony one for my m6, loved it, got one for my m3. It has dropped in price.

I think Sony should include it in the case, loose, for people to decide whether to use it or not. It may seem like wasting some material if some don't use it, however, when you think about all the material used for separate packaging, and energy used for separate shipping, more space in storage room, ....

I use the Sony grip with the supplied wrist strap. When not in the case I have the strap around my wrist and carry the camera with the help of the grip. Mush easier to do with the grip than without.

Oh yeah, you might want to add a glass lcd protector.

It has a factory thick plastic film to protect the lcd glass below, and to give some anti-glare benefit. That anti-glare plastic coating was more important with the m1,m2 that had no evf, less important for m3,4,5,6 with evfs.

The plastic scuffs easily, many of us add glass protectors. I used to use Larmor glass, $15. each, recently I changed to a less expensive 3 pack $7.

........................................................

Note to others with older units, or considering buying a used rx100, with plastic film that is already scuffed.

The plastic film is removable, and bingo, scuffs gone, virgin lcd glass exposed, then add a glass protector to that. I did it to my m1 and m3, and many others have also.

Can you use the glass screen with the touchscreen of the Rx1006

Can you use the glass screen with the touchscreen of the Rx1006
Yes,

I just turned touch on for my m6 and it works with the glass protector I purchased in the 3 pack from Amazon

I presume (always dangerous) that it will work with thicker glass protectors, or sony's hard plastic protector, maybe others can confirm that.

I keep touch off, because my nose kept unintentionally moving the focus spot around the screen. Touch has some variations of use. After a while, I will learn how I can benefit from it.
