Any idea when the next Mac Pro will be coming out?

Next year. Or maybe 2020.

My money is on an announcement at WWDC 2019, with actual delivery early 2020. I will happily be positively surprised by earlier availability, but not holding my breath.

What tasks do you want to get done faster?

There are many possibilities today to get a blistering fast Mac.

E.g. add two Vega 64 in an eGPU casing for ultra fast Video to an iMac Pro. In many respects the current TB3 MAC are modular now already.

The MP will be ultra pricy - exceeding the wildest expectationprobably and itmight be an All- ARM machine needing all new software.

I‘d also expect beginning 2020 in stores.

I'm looking to edit several layers in photoshop or other programs quickly (like Affinity Photo), without the computer overheating or working too hard (and also quiet). I already have a separate monitor, and I'm not too keen on laptops, so I was thinking about the Mac Pro. It's probably overkill, but I tried the Mac Mini and found that it worked hard and was noisy for what I described (editing several layers in Affinity Photo).

The modular MP will be much mor expensive and the Mini is no silent workhorse.

The iMP is virtually unheralded under heavy load and probably 2 .. 3 x The speed of the old nMP

I got an iMac Pro when the came out, it has been awesome - very quiet even if the fans max out (which is rare). I use affinity photo quite often, sometimes with a number of layers - no issues.

I have the base model in most respects, except for a maxed out GPU (Radeon Pro 64) and maxed out storage (I work from computer storage, then shift to external drives to archive).

I had a second monitor also, you can still attach that as another screen if you like... I mostly end up using the iMac Pro monitor though.

Before splurging thousands of dollars on a new Mac Pro or iMac Pro, you should probably consider the entry level Mac mini i3. I routinely work on large multi-layered Photoshop files with an older Mac mini, and the fans never ramp up in this scenario.
