--I'm still up for 1:00PM. Not sure what it will be like shooting in
the bright afternoon light, but I would love to see how others
handle it.
I also got an early birthday present that I'm anxious to try out: a
Canon 17-40L. I got in on the $699.95 deal at B&H earlier this
week. The lens came yesterday and I had a blast shooting stuff
around the house last night.
One thing I hadn't anticipated with the lens was its very small
minimum focusing distance. There are some interesting possibilities
there.

--funny you should mention that.....when I got my kenko extension
tubes....for fun I tried putting one on my 17-40, and the minimum
focus distance was actually so close, I couldn't use it.....after
touching the (small) lens hood to the subject, I was still too far
away.....
enjoy that lens Tommy, it's a good one........I used mine all up
and down the oregon coast, and got some beautiful scenic shots with
it
photography is my obsession.....

Randy, thanks to seeing you with the 3265 at the Zoo, I got one of
those, too. And I can now finally make use of my monopod.
I don't know why I didn't get a ball head sooner. Maybe I was
listening too much to people with really long lenses who need
absolute stability and thus only one of the very expensive ball
heads (Kirk, Arca Swiss, etc.) would work.
I've only gotten to play around it for a couple of hours so far,
but I'm going to be able to meaningfully use my monopod now and get
shots I couldn't get before and improve the quality of all of them.
So, thanks again.

I got it at B&H. It's the Bogen 3265, and it's just the head. I already had a Bogen Carbon Fiber monopod.Share the details now. Don't keep me in suspense! Where did you
get it and how much did you pay? When you say ball head, I assume
it comes with the monopod right? I'll be getting a monopod/tripod,
additional lens, and a camera bag soon. Decided not to get the Big
Ed yet. I figure I'll just buy another spare battery instead.
There are some architectural features that will be rendered just
fine with the sun overhead (not ideal lighting, but still ok).
