Hi All

I just bought the Z4 on the weekend from Hong Kong. It cost me 3650 HK dollars (around 475 US), with a 128 meg memory card and a case. I was actually in the market for a Z3, but this was not available anywhere in Hong Kong, except for some models which looked to be refurbished.

So far I have only used it a bit, out drinking on Saturday night and taking some fotos of the city. I am pretty happy with the fotos, as I am definitely not a power user...I used to have a Sony P9 (which unfortunately fell in the ocean), and am just as happy with the casio pics as I was with the Sony. The lcd screen is huge too!

Let me know if you want to know any specs and I will try and help you out by looking at the manual.

What are some of the main features that Z4 has compared to Z3?

Hello Rabs....my question is this...I heard that the Z3 would produce a blue case when used with flash...do you find this to be true with the z4..thanks in advance...Fgaz

...except for that 1MP boost. Quite disappointing. Hopefully prices will drop for the Z3 and Optio S.

Rabs huq,

One preview suggested that there is a video out on the Z4.
Is it ture? (I wish....)
This PAN focusing, does it make any difference?

Thanks.
András

There is no video out on my camera.

Pan focussing - havent tried it...will try it out tonite.

The description in the manual of pan focus is below...I am not sure what to use it for?

"Using the Pan Focus Mode
Normally, your camera performs Auto Focus to ensure that
your images are always in focus. With Pan Focus, focus is
fixed for a specific focal distance, and images are recorded
without Auto Focus. The focus range depends on the zoom
setting, the amount of light available when recording, and
other recording conditions."

I am not sure what is meant by a 'blue case' - do you mean a blue tint on the fotos. I havent noticed anything like this, but most of my fotos I have been fiddling with the bestshot settings.

Perhaps the 'blue case' is there but my eye is not trained enuff to spot it.

Pan Focus, as far as i'm aware, automatically focuses the image as you pan to different subjects in the scene, depending on their distance from one another.

So instead of having to half push the shutter release button in order to focus the image on what is in the center of the screen, the Pan Focus will do this automatically without the need to continuously focus the subject as it changes distance.

For example, you focus on a man standing 20 feet away from you, all fine and well, he's focused and you can get a clear shot. However, he starts to walk towards you, meaning that the focus setting is now incorrect because he has shifted distance, so you now have to re-aquire a focus by pushing in the shutter release half way.

With Pan Focus the camera will constantly re-focus on the man as he moves towards the camera, saving you valuable re-focusing time if you had to do it the "Auto Focus" way. It's just like how a video camera works.

I'm taking a major stab in the dark here, so if this is completely incorrect then can somebody in the know please correct me :)

Any clicking noise in movie recorded, both played on Z4 and on PC?

there is no clicking noise in playback on z4 or pc, but the mic seems to be fairly sensitive...ie if you move the camera around too much while recording some noise is picked up...

Rabs, i'm curios as to whether the Pan Focus mode is what i described above, and if so, how does it perform? alot easier than doing the auto focus mode like on the Z3?

you could see it if your camera showed this problem...

my camera doesn't have this problem too.

do a forum search and you'll find some posts describing this problem...

are you sure this isn't caused by the auto focus?

try disabling auto focus (set focus to "infinite") and then recording a movie...

I put it in other thread, but that's my doubt:

Yeah mate, I think you're right.

I had a play around with the movie mode over the weekend, and I couldn't change the size (I presume you mean resolution).

FYI, the only resolution I can record to is 320x240.

Hope that helps..

hey doctor_evil

yeah actually the noise was from me playing around with the buttons while recording....but you are right, the auto focus will produce 'confirmation' noises which will be picked up in the movie. so pan or inifintiy focus is probably best for movies.
