Should I buy additional lenses, or upgrade camera? (Panasonic G2)

MFT has come a long way since their second version of the mirrorless camera. I would upgrade the camera to a new recent camera any one will do. You'll find a lot of improvements in speed, and performance. Which may or may not be a big deal.

Thanks. We have the 14-42mm kit that came with not it, which is not bad for general use.

The GX85 does look good, and has in body OIS? That's very useful if we want to use non-panasonic mft lenses.

that lens is one of the few Panasonic kit lenses which doesn't measure up... the 12-32, 12-60 and 14-42ii are DEFINITELY better. Smaller, sharper, smoother zoom action (or all of the above) !

yes, the gx85 has good IBIS, and it is superb with the 12-32 = dual IS, esp for video

Do PLEASE be sure to get your partner into a camera shop, to give the GX85 a good try-out before buying.

I didn't... and soon regretted it immensely!

Not so much for the camera's quality and performance, which are both fine, but because I'm both left-eye dominant AND left handed... two characteristics that both push me towards either EVF-less cameras or those with their EVF mounted centrally.

Unable to "get on" with the layout of the GX80, I've now bought myself a slightly-used Olympus E-M10 II... but that's a whole other story!

It's one reason my first recommendation was the G80 NOT the GX80. The G80 is far more like a G2.

If she got along with the G2, then going to the G80 will not be very different. Instead, it will be quite similar, only MUCH better.

The GX80 (or 85 in both cases) is a different form factor. btw -- the GX80 has poorer battery life than the G80.

Just to give an update - I ended up buying a 'nearly new' Olympus OM D e-m10 Mark II (in silver) with the 12-42 pancake kit lens for £275 with accessories and 1yr warranty.

I'm looking into some of the lenses recommended here, but I'm hoping the upgrade will provide a better, more mobile shooting experience for my other half :)

Thanks to everyone who responded!

Think you'll like it!

And if looking for a stocking-filler - though, perhaps, not something to be used too often - try...

Might do nicely for the cramped streets of Trastevere?

One other suggestion - for a fiver or so, I found this Kindle book a great help with getting my head round the Olympus menu system...

"Supercharging the Olympus OM-D E-M10" (updated for Mk II and Mk II versions)...

Good deal and good luck with it. Recommended to a friend who is very happy with it, replaced his Nikon D90. If you ever go for larger lenses you might appreciate a 3rd party grip for ~ $30. Seems expensive for a piece of metal but the camera handles much better with it IMHO.

No first impressions?

And why go with Olympus?
