Has anyone else who owns a 717 experienced a loose
lens swivel? After a moderate amount of use this summer
I am noticing play between the lens swivel and the body,
where it was very tight before. I stopped in to Best Buy
to see if their sample 717 might have the same problem,
and sure enough... a loose swivel.

Any way to tighten the swivel without sending back to
Sony?

Thanks.

Hi Chris,

can't help you specifically on this issue (mine's still too new to have a problem in this area), but here is a link to dismantling the 717, if you're game to try it yourself....

I noticed the same thing a few week ago. And I also notice that one small screw was not tight. A small scewdriver did the job and the loose lens swivel is now fix.

Do you mean holding the cam with your right hand and the lens falls down? Or if the cam is placed on a flat surface in front of you, hold the body with your right hand and the lens will pivot to the left slightly, which would be perpendicualr to the rotating axis of the lens? Mine does that! but not much.. maybe one mm or two gap opens up. It's a very big lever for a small bearing to keep in line so some slop is going to appear.
let me know what type you have.

But I have never had the cam apart... others would be more informed.

or blow a call in to tech. How much does yours move, how much gap opens up at the body?

Paco is right. The lens flexes to the left, causing a small gap between
the lens and the body.

Paco, I tried tightening the two screws that are on the
swivel pivot, but it didn't seem to help. I'll probably call
tech support and see if they have any ideas.

Thank you both for your help!

Mine's not loose, only had it a month or so. But this past week it started making a hollow TWANG noice when I swivel up or down. I'm not liking it one bit. Anyone else?
