PNG files in Lightroom?

I am using Lightroom Classic CC. I need to be able to catalog/work with a large number of PNG screen shots, but Lightroom does not "see" PNG files. Is there any solution? (Converting them all to JPGs is not a solution - I have hundreds of PNG files.)
 
The last time I tried this didn't work. I just tried again and it did - the fix must have been in a recent update.
