I asked this in the open talk forum, but thought I would ask here too.

I have 3 lenses, and adding a 4th... and need a waterproof hiking suitable backpack...

Any thoughts chaps?

How waterproof are you looking for? Most packs have some sort of silnylon cover to protect them from rain, which seem to work fairly well. The true waterproof packs such as roll top bags or the Lowepro Dryzone are pretty cumbersome.

I typically use a Lowepro Photosport 300 AW because I like the suspension compared to most photo backpacks. Unfortunately space is a little tight, and it only can carry the GFX and about two lenses, one of them being a smaller 45mm or 63mm. Perhaps the Lowepro protactic 450? Better size, still reasonably light.

I was about to give up on carrying any more than 50S and one lens, plus a liter of water for my local hikes in the desert. I went to the mountaineering store and got a regular backpack and added tenba inserts. When they’re fitted properly, extra weight becomes much more comfortable. They don’t have all the convenience of a photo backpack, but oh well.

I don't own one yet, but will soon. They seem popular with some pretty serious outdoors oriented photographers, including Jimmy Chin.

Well made, comfortable to carry and the inserts allow customization. Take a look at different sized ICUs in light of the gear you want to carry and find a bag that fits! (The company suggests picking the bag and then the ICU, but if the ICU you need won't fit...).

If you have any questions, I've found their customer service to be prompt in responding and very helpful.

I'm not associated with the company, but have very happy with my purchases from them.

I have just thrown a messenger bag with my camera gear into my Osprey Atmos AG backpacking pack. I carry the camera and a single lens in a chest pouch for easy access, and then can use the rest of the gear conveniently when I get into camp. Its cumbersome, but a real pack does carry weight much better than the photo ones.

I use the smallest Tenba Shootout. I liked it that it had enough depth to protect the evf. It comes in various sizes and is very well made.

OP read my mind because I’m looking into the same thing. Do any f-Stop gear owners know if the GFX + say 3 primes fit the medium or small ICU better?

Oh no I have to buy one now he is an advocate. Very much like Jimmy.

I have looked at Fstop yes, sizing is important for hang luggage requirements and F Stop seem to be an odd size, I will re look though.

Thanks very much, I dont need waterproof I guess, but weather proof from heavy rain. I dont plan on submersing it put it that way.

So I assume yours comes with a rain cover? Does it have water proof material on the bag itself?

Yeah I think I need to try the fit, I have a cheap K and F one but the inserts are terrible.

Day really. But I am not totally sure... Room for a change of underwear too perhaps :-D just incase I hike slower and have to camp out.

Thanks Sharon, this is a brilliant option, never heard of them. I think the 24L looks like it would be a perfect bag and is still in the size limits for hand luggage

I'd like to know this too... F Stop might make nice bags but they dont really make it overly clear what things work with which bags...

There is a section at the bottom of the ICU page that indicates clearly which single ICU or some combinations of ICUs fit which bags.

As for each ICU, inner and outer dimensions are included in the specs. I know there's always a degree of imprecision, and cameras are lumpy things, but you can probably estimate fairly closely.

Sharon, is that the 18L?

Yes, that's the one I have. It would hold several lenses with the gfx. At least 3 anyway. I looked a LONG time as I don't want a huge pack.

I use the Mindshift Backlight 26L and 36L.

They both fit the GFX with the GF32-64mm + GF120mm + GF250.
In addition you can bring a laptop - filters etc + some clothing.

I use the larger bag when I bring both my GFX and X-T3 kits at the same time.
