I was lulled into trusting one of these things again and YEAH... Gopro 6 switched itself in to photo mode when it was supposed to be taking video!

OMG I am beyond angry!!!!! Is there a way to lock out everything BUT VIDEO???

Fing gopros.........

So I am on the phone with gopro support and we did a factory reset and NOW............... the quick capture wont do ANYTHING but photomode....

Fing Gopros....

Interesting.

I thought I had started a hyperlapse with my GP7 yesterday - but turns out I did 4k/60 video instead.

I guess it good to pay attention to it.
I just spent an hour and a half on the phone with gopro support and got NO where!!!

Well, I thought nothing of it, and didn't spend an hour with gopro support. ;-)

Sounds like you have the recording LEDs turned off?
Nope they are turned on. I noted the red LED was indicating recording. Being that I have NEVER shot time-lapse photos I didn't get that the rapid blink meant it wasn't in video mode.

Now what its doing is every other push of the shutter button on top, its recording Video, then the next push of the button its recording time lapse photos... I have factory reset the camera twice and now I am trying a firmware update again.

...why in the world would you spend 1 1/2 hours on the phone with support.

In less time than that you can mess with the camera and get used to it.

Once again I musta got one of the "good" Hero 7s.

Keeps on happening?!?
Why Spend time on the phone with Gopro? BECAUSE THE CAMERA IS MALFUNCTIONING ! ! !

This isn't a failure to understand operation! The camera has failed to operate properly!!!

Yet again ANOTHER GOPRO HAS FAILED ! ! !

I don't use quick capture mode with my GP6, but I've noticed that it's very easy to hit the wrong button and switch modes. So I've learned to double-check the screen every time I start recording to verify that it's doing what I want it to. And I've also learned to recognize the various beeps to warn me when I've done the wrong thing.

I wrote it that way intentionally because I was frustrated!

...for years with GoPro, across various models.

Endless Chronic, Unending, Universal.

I seem to sail along getting great captures, from the 3 onward.

It's so very strange.

;-)

In an average shoot I wind up with between 800GPs and 1TB of video. This amount of use, kills Gopros apparently.

I like the crisp sharpness that the 6 produces but it has proven itself unreliable. This camera now (out of the blue) operates like this.

With the quick capture set to video, it will switch between shooting video with one push of the quick capture button and then the next push of the quick capture it shoots time lapse photos. THAT is NOT proper operation. If that happened to you, causing you to miss a critical un-repeatable shot, would you be ok with that?

Seriously? would you?

Well, at the very least it would teach me to double-check things when I started those critical un-repeatable shots. Yeah, maybe you shouldn't have to baby-sit the camera so closely - but a critical shot is always worth a bit of extra care and attention IMHO.

...for multiple fill-the-memory card shoots?

You must spend lotta time editing.

For that i would skip the quik capture anyway, and likely tag the video as you go along.

Sounds like a security camera feed.

I do MANY shortish clips for MotorSports . About 10-35 gb a day. Seldom over 100gb per camera. Else way too much dead time that just gets deleted.

OK my fault for not knowing that a slightly faster LED blink was indicating that the camera was not recording video but was shooting time lapse photos.

Who here HONESTLY knew that?

You see I shoot video... I don't shoot time lapse photos with this camera EVER!!!!

Sooooooo when I pressed the quick capture button (that was set up correctly in the preferences menu for the following)

QuickCapture ON

Default Mode (small video icon)

I should be able to proceed with confidence the camera would begin to shoot video and not time lapse photos RIGHT? I should not have to find out the camera is malfunctioning AFTER the fact. HENCE and this is now confirmed with Gopro who is replacing the camera as defective............. yet again another Gopro has gone south on me.

...at a quiet time see these tidbits. Flip thru the PDF manual too. There are some undocumented strategies too, some with the remote for instance simpler/quicker.

U don't take a GoPro with so many modes, features, tiny means of control and do a once in a lifetime shoot 15 seconds after opening the box.

There Be Dragons if you shortcut your prep and efforts.

With work in advance, it becomes so much easier and less stressful .

I didn't. I check the LCD screen. I want to know that it's in the right mode, right frame rate, right field of view, etc.

My last phone had a muli-clolour LED that could be set to different colours for different notifications - so green for whats app, blue for email, orange for something else, red for low battery, purple for something else etc.

It can't be that difficult or expensive for gopro to implement something similar - perhaps even user configurable via the app.
