What three lenses to start? I shoot family, kids sports, landscape, and travel. Have been a Nikon 1 user for years. I have all the lenses and use them all. But the 10-100 zoom and the 18mm are usually my first picks. Thank you for any input.

The 18-55/2.8-4 is a great allround lens: it is sharp, has a nice range, is relative compact and has OIS. This lens is so versatile that I almost always take it with me.

The 18-135 has more range, is still sharp though not as sharp as the 18-55 form what I've read.

For me:

10-24/4

18-55/2.8-4 or 18-135/3.5-5.6 and wait for new 16-80/4

55-200/3.5-4.8

For those who don't mind huge heavier kits:

10-24/4

16-55/2.8

50-140/2.8

For those who prefer primes:

16/1.4

23/1.4

56/1.2

Thank you. I purchased the xt3 with the kit 18-55mm and the 50-140mm. Trying to decide between the 16mm or the 35mm for low light family shots. Thoughts?

I don't know about you but I need a wider lens for my family so I went with the 16/1.4. I did get the 35mm but I got the newer f2 version.

I'm new the X-T3 coming from Canon FF with using only L lenses. I did not like the XF 18-55. I'm using the XF 16-55 f/2.8 which IMHO is at par or better than the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L.

My selection will be:

10-24 f/4 OIS for city and landscapes.

16-55 f/2.8 for general and portraits.

55-200 f/3.5-4.8 OIS for medium telephoto.

Hi,

I would start with the 16-55. It's very versatile and image quality is top notch. That way you really see a substantial difference to your Nikon 1 system.

If you also want a small camera sometimes I would consider the 23/2.

I am trying the 18-55, 16mm and the 35 mm. I like a zoom but the 18-55mm was a little noisy inside. I used the 16mm with sharp photos of people around a table. But the people sitting in front were a tad out of focus. Should I try a different zone for focus? Also had to get very close for a head shot. Is the 16-50mm cumbersome? Could it replace the 18-55 and the 16mm?

I thought about the 16-50mm but thought it would be heavy. I did purchase the 50-140mm. But struggling with the other two lenses.

Thank you for your thoughts!!
