flash

I like to get a flash for my a99 ,any suggestion?
I have several Metz 52 and 64 units. They are versatile and reliable- just what I need.

The Minolta 3600HS(D) or 5600HS(D) work pretty well on the ADP-MAA adapter.

Buy one each of Godox TT350S and VING II 860 Sony. I have these for my a99i and they work well. TT350S is great for fill and doesn't over expose as easily as the 860. Also get a wrap on soft bounce and a set of colored gels. I use Ni-MH's in the 350. And there's the X1T-S if you're into off camera flash

I have been using a pair of F43AMs with adapter with the Pixel King Pro triggers and receivers. However last week, I ordered a godox tt685 to start down that road. If I like the flash, I will get the godox sony pro trigger and a receiver and try my Rovelight monolight. The pixel king stuff has been rock solid, but I like that godox has the receivers built into the flashheads and that there is a whole ecosystem of lights--with more on the way. Plus Godox is very affordable.

Dont sony flash have that? are Godox 100% work on sony camera?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Yes the Sony flashes will work together with optical communication. I prefer radio communication which is why I use the Pixel Kings. Sony has just come out with a radio system, but it is very pricey.

As far as Godox working, as I said in my message, I'm just now getting one of their flashes to start evaluating the system. My TT685 arrived today, and it sure seems like a very well built flash. My next test will be putting it on my camera as an on-camera flash and then using it with the Pixel King radio system and see how it handles all that. If I like that, I will get a godox pro transmitter and go from there.

If you only want to get one, get HVL-F60M, it's the best package. A lot of power, great versatility (quick bounce is awesome).

However, if you're planning to get more than one, you have to choose a wireless TTL system, and you really have six choices:

1. Sony optical wireless. Only reliable indoors. Outdoor use is tricky. By far the cheapest method, works with a lot of second hand units (Minolta, Sony or third party).

2. Sony radio wireless. New, fully compatible with latest cameras, not compatible with A99. Extremely expensive compared to alternatives.

3. Pixel King, Cactus, etc. Radio control. Not compatible with Sony or other vendors. (Note: Pixel King and Cactus are not compatible with each other, just gave them as examples). Good reliability, somewhat expensive, since they need receivers and speedlights. No guaranteed compatibility.

4. Nissin Air. Radio control. Not compatible with Sony or other vendors. Reliable, might get expensive, need dedicated flash units for specific TTL modes. Receivers exist for other flashes, as well as dedicated speedlights from Nissin.

5. Godox (resold as Adorama Flashpoint, PixaPro, Quadralite, and other brands). Probably the most comprehensive system. For control, it includes transmitters and speedlights (which has transmitters built in). On the receiver side, it has receivers, dedicated speedlights and a range of TTL studio lights.

It's noteworthy that Godox AD600 TTL studio flash is sold for less than Sony's HVL-F60RM, but has ten times the power.

If you're building a more extensive system, I'd consider either Sony optical wireless or Godox radio.

Oh, Profoto is probably going to introduce a Sony compatible controller and flashes in 2019, but they're even more expensive than Sony.

As for Pixel King, they work perfectly on the A99 , A99ii, and a6000 with the Sony flashes (F43AM)--HSS, TTL, and manual--no problems whatsoever.

However, I put the Godox TT685 on the pixel king receiver last night, and the godox kept turning itself off, so that doesn't work. However, the godox worked perfectly mounted on the A99ii. In practice, I wouldn't use the King radio with the godox flashes. I would simply move to the entire godox system. So the next step is to get the godox pro transmitter and test that out.
