Nancy, Joy and I went out for PA pheasants for the second day yesterday. In less than an hour, Joy had found, pinned and perfectly pointed two birds - which I killed. Nancy was amazed by the dog work - as is anyone who hasn't seen it before. I suspect that it won't be too long before Nancy is asking to learn how to shoot a shotgun (she's deadly with a rifle, but shotguns are vastly different - all movement instead of calm stillness).

Having limited out (the daily limit here is two birds), it was over way too quickly and, unfortunately, we decided to walk several more miles to get our daily exercise. So, I unloaded my gun and we walked. Joy found, worked, pinned and pointed four more pheasants that I could have killed. I let Nancy flush them to her great excitement. At the end of the walk, when we were only 1/2 mile or so from the Jeep, Joy cut one of her pads nearly off. Don't know what she hit - probably broken glass hidden in the mud. Blood everywhere. All kinds of muck in the wound. I carry a first aid kit in my vest, so I cleaned it out with hydrogen peroxide, put a big gauze bandage on it and covered with the that blue stretchy adhesive wrap. Got her home.

Took her to the vet first thing this morning. He is a good friend who also runs Brittanys. He will personally do the surgery today and she will be fine, but will be out of action for at least two weeks of the four week Pennsylvania "wild" pheasant season. Usually I have two working dogs, so that if one gets injured (both the dogs and the hunters unavoidably go into harm's way whenever they are hunting), the other dog can still work, but Chase is retired now, so we are done for at least half the season.

Amazing that Ms. Joy hunted every day for six weeks in the vast, harsh spaces of the remote west without any injury and then the second day in action gets hurt badly here in tiny safe Pennsylvania...

Anyway, these are the birds she gave me yesterday - they will be the last for a good while:

Well Greg, at least you got 2 birds....

And t's good that Joy only sustained minor wound . Like you said, anything can happen hunting

I hope that Joy's recovery is speedy.
Regards,
David

Growing old is inevitable; growing up, however, is optional.
And I have opted out.

I wish Joy to be back in action soon!

Wife was off getting a regularly scheduled mammogram this morning. It's something like 1 out of 6 women will get it so this one people are very aware of. It's probably one people that people are MOST aware of.

Collar time again. <Deep sigh>

You'll have to take up a new hobby. I understand knitting is a lot of fun.

Even though you probably won't take me up on the knitting suggestion I know you'll figure something out.

Best wishes to the crew.

Grant.

“Different professional societies and organizations continue to disagree over the optimal time to initiate and discontinue breast cancer screening mammography and the optimal screening interval,” researchers wrote in the paper.

Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada. The building on the left is quite old for here (probably late 1800's). The brick place on the right has a sign which isn't for any business around today. It's for a furniture store/ funeral home from years gone by. The furniture business wasn't enough to keep a store going. The owner would also run a funeral home in the same store.

Colors on the river. Some trees are looking pretty bare, others colorful.

Odd store. Must have dealt in funeral furniture so not too much business?

Great exposures on the shots.

Once she felt a lump in her breast and was told to see a Breast Specialist. So she was scare and asked me to come along. Well the lady doctor has her lying on a table and is feeling her breast. She tells me to come over and she placed my hand on her breast and was manipulating it and says.Do you feel the lump? I said No, but you have ruined my playing with her breasts for life, Now! It was not cancer!!!

She died of a brain tumor though.... RIP Col

Thanks Nick.

That's my Rollei SL66 mount lens on a Fotodiox adapter. 80mm landscape lens ;-). To be fair it's a medium format lens though so it's probably like about a 50mm on the A7ii.

Both are from this past Sunday at the harbor in Kenosha WI. Forgot that I had the Sony Watercolors turned on, but I like both shots.
