Will this make my camera less likely to get stolen?

With all due respect, I don't understand this camera renaming.

Whatever name, you will or won't be targeted, that's mostly on behavior and body language not on camera make, 'they' don't really know the different models, which are sold for ridiculous low prices.

Btw you still have a Sony lens on your 'Kodak' , who are you fooling?

I would suggest some sand paper and a wire brush. Work that baby over good and no one will touch it.

It would have been a blessing if Kodak actually changed their old model and delivered a product like that. But then, back in the day when I was running my studios, the TSR's from Kodak were not customer oriented. Why bother, the company was too big to fail.

Tru story. I was photographing outside of 4th Presbyterian Church in Chicago, when I sat my Nikon on a ledge and picked up my Hasselblad in order to do a few large format shots. In the middle of the shoot an old lady came up and hugged me, and I didn't have an understanding as to why, until I turned around later and my Nikon was gone.

Wow! an old lady doing that in US.

When I was in Rome, a group of youngster tried to distract my friend and steal his stuff. One guy asked for a question then put a cellfone in front of his face, the other put hand in his pocket. I heard that even your camera is attached to your neck, they can remove the lens.

Ha ha ha! Good one and funny. As to the stealing part, it is a vintage piece now! They think it is worth a milion.

Instead of "Kodak", pick some meaningless word in a non-Latin alphabet like Sanskrit or Greek. Thieves might be less likely to steal a camera no one ever heard of.

Then paint it fluorescent orange.

Once you attach your strap they will know that it's worth stealing. I enjoyed the post.

?

My straps are just as anonymized as my cameras and white lenses are...

Not just for security and staying under the radar, I also don't feel like giving free advertising space to manufacturers.

Why not just name your camera David (your real name).

Then it for sure is yours, and can only be stolen by or sold to other Davids. :-)

Why Kodak? Something like a Russian camera name would be better... like KIEV.

Name it Microsoft. Then when you get asked say it's a cracked version.

On the plus side, when you go to a market they won't try and charge to x5 the price as people carrying Nikon or Cannon cameras. Make sure they don't find out you have anything apple as the price will go up x50+.

A Windows Vista or Windows 8 logo would make it even more worthless.

Yep. I once had the music stollen out of my radio.

The way I look at it is: whether the thief believes the camera value to be $20 or $2,000 if the risk of getting caught is low (as it will be in most large cities), I trust that thieves will avail themselves of the opportunity equally for $20 or $2000. Don't take comfort in camouflage. Either be prepared to lose your gear or shoot somewhere else. If you have the choice.
