Fuji x-pro 1 is still worth it in 2018?

Hello,

I'm a 50-year-old man always passionate about photography.
For the past 15 years I have had to abandon it due to various problems.
Now thanks to my son I want to get closer without spending a lot, I'm mainly in fuji that I like a lot for its shape, the position of buttons and other things ...
I would have thought of the X-pro1 even if I know that it is quite dated I really like the photos that come from this body.
But is it still worthwhile to buy it in 2018 or is it better?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

If you don't indent to cover any kind of action it's still a very fine camera especially if you get it for little money.

35/1.4 is a very fine lens too for portraiture and other things and the 23/2 if you want something shorter.

It is still a fantastic camera. I'd suggest what Joachim has. I'd also recommend looking at flicker, or more generally on the internet, at photos taken with the XP1. Now the XP2 is better, no surprises there, and is coming down in price second hand. However the XP1 can be found, in great condition, for very little money. It is such a bargain it's unreal. I bought a second hand one last year and, despite having an XP2 now, I won't be getting rid of it. Zone focusing can help capture moving objects better.

Id also strongly to read a blog by Adam Bonn. I've put a link below. It talks about both XP's but mainly the XP1. It also has his thought having just bought another on second hand and his recent outings with it. It really helped me understand the XP1. Get one and enjoy it. You really won't regret it.

I bought a very used X-Pro1 from a member here at about this time last year, and am so very glad I did. It's a delightful camera and a lot of fun to use. I am very happy with the results I am getting with it. The fact that it is older has nothing to do with any of its good qualities.

It's certainly not a sports camera with ultra fast auto focus, nor is it the best camera to use with long lenses. But it's wonderful with primes of modest length that you can use with the OVF. I bought mine a secondhand 35mm f/2, which I think is a lens very well matched with the camera.

The X-Pros in general (and the X100 series as well) are particularly nice for street and walkaround shooting. People assume that they are "old film cameras" and tend to deal them and their shooters in a friendly, low key way. My DSLRs make me feel like a paparazzo by comparison.

I think if you find a nice old X-Pro1 at a good price, you won't be sorry if you buy it.

I have an XT20 and XT2 but I've kept my original 6 year old X-Pro1 which I use almost exclusively for street and people pictures. Best with shorter primes 14, 16, 23, 35, but also 56/60 and 90mm.

Buy it and use it with all the enjoyment you used to get from photography.

I second the X-Pro1 + 35/1.4R combo, a couple of my best latest shots came out of it, it won't be THE camera but A good one.

In my opinion the X-T series should do better at least for ease of access to most of the controls (ISO, Exp mode etc), AF speed and IQ is a story apart, but the Pro1 does really well with primes and with non (fast)moving subjects.

On my Flickr two of the last three shots taken with the X-PRo1 and the 35mm

People on these forums are mainly interested in the latest and greatest and that's a shame because the X-Pro1 and the X-E1, when it comes to image quality, are two of the best APS sensor cameras ever made.

Nothing has changed.

Images from these two cameras are as good today as they were a few years ago.

Either one of those two cameras, with the Fuji 18-55mm lens, is a steal in today's used market.

The same people who are only interested in the latest and greatest almost give them away.

Take a look in the "For Sale and wanted" forum here at DP Review.

It was worth it to me. I let go of an XT-10, and bought a used x-Pro1, while keeping an X-e2.

Expensive choice, as it turns out.

I enjoyed the handling and size of the Pro1 enough that I bought a (used) X-Pro2. I love them both!

If you take the advice of an 47 old... ;)

It is a very capable camera. I sold mine for the X-Pro2 due to AF speed. But the X-Pro1 was fine for travel etc. The 24MP vs 16MP doesn‘t matter for me in real life (and I do print in poster size). And I really like the form factor and shooting experience of the X-Pro 1/2, it is an incredible design.

Go for it! :)

Yes. It´s a great camera. A bit slow in focusing, but image Q great. Make sure to get the diopters, if you are using glasses. Cosina, Zeiss or Fuji hard to find.

I bought my NOS X-Pro1 about a year ago. Frankly it has reignited my love of photography.

It was bought in conjunction with a XF18-55 soon for a trip to the UK. I liked it so much, I got a 35 f1.4 and 18 f2.0.

I've since bought an as new XT-1 for the zoom and the primes stay on the X-Pro for street photography.

They're both awesome!

I'm 61 btw.

Yes, it's worth buying. It's my affordable digital Leica M.

I’ve seen those XPRO 1 prices and I think it’s a screaming deal for a great body that puts you into the XF lens family. A much smarter buy than getting the recent crop of cameras. The Pro1 prices are like new with a zero missing!

I’m shooting daily with my XE1 which is the same generation camera as you are looking at. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything important to the images with “that old camera.”

If you read around here to much you’ll start to believe that without the latest 24MP fastest AF system you may as stay home...I’m here to say not true.

My 2 cents . . .

I've got two of these beauties. I use them for travel and street photography. The IQ is great, JPEG's are superb, RAW's are fine to work with.

With the prices today, for me it's an absolute go for. Next step, search for the original 3 lenses, 18, 35 and 60mm. Put them all in a small bag, together with the X-Pro1 and let the party begin . . .

Maybe it's a digital classic, anyway it's a beauty, the X-Pro1

It's my only Fuji camera and I find it to be very good for the uses I put it to. Lovely output from it.

X-Pro1 is a great camera, even today. But, it does not have the diopter (to correct short- or long-sightness), so I had to sell mine; then I bought X-E1 which is simpler, without the hybrid finder, but it has the diopter and - for me the most imporant - has the same gorgeous sensor like the X-Pro1.

That diopter thing is a good point. You’ve reminded me that was one of the reasons that in the day I choose the XE1- it has adjustable diopter dial.

You used to be able to order diopters; I wonder if they are still available. I guess with a used camera you might get lucky and find one that already has the adjustments you need.

Opted into the Fuji X system big time. Like to travel light and shot quick; that's why I also have a Ricoh GR....
Perfect is the enemy of good!

JPEG for JPEG, it's the best x-trans Fujifilm ever made. As a secondary or portrait camera, you can't do better.

Fuji doesn't sell diopter lenses any more. I got mine from Cameraquest
