..EF-FX1 Auto Focus Transfer Lens Adapter for Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Fuji X, are you happy with its performance? I just ordered one because I own half a half dozen Canon EF-S lenses that I periodically use on my EOS M cameras (with their adapter). I never considered getting an adapter for my Fuji X cameras - but this time I pulled the trigger on one due to a temporary $140 price on eBay (the vendor realized he was charging too low a price and raised it around $40 after I ordered (haaaaaaa). But more so, do the IS functions on the Canon lenses engage and function correctly with this adapter on Fuji X cameras?

Basically, does the adapter work as advertised with regards to fast AF and other electronic functions?

Your thoughts? I specifically wanted to use my EF-S 10-18 F4.5-5.6 IS STM lens with my X-T1 because I wanted a superb wide angle lens. This lens - although quite inexpensive - has almost "L" performance qualities and has received superb reviews.

I have been looking at it since seeing a video on it from Mattias Burling:

He got his for somewhat less.

Let us know how it goes once you get it.

I have this EFs 15-85mm that I really would like to use on it.... as well as others of course.

...and the one you referenced is really one of the only ones out there - other than one or two where all you see is them focusing on different objects, but not saying anything about its overall performance. Oh well, as long as it works on my X-T1, X-E2, X-T100, and X-A3, I'll be happy. But the key is how consistent is it with different EF-S lenses, in particular, their zoom lenses (I want to use it on the Fuji cameras with the EF-S 10-18 and EF-S 55-250 lenses).

If you purchase it, I’d love to know as well. I don’t think the IS functions work, as one of the Fringer adapter’s main bullet points is IS functionality.

The fact that Viltrox doesn’t specifically mention it worries me, and IS is a big reason I’d want to use my Canon lenses in the first place.

I have one. I did a quick test with my xt3 and the 70-200 f2.8. Works fine. AF is snappy. Eye af works as well. No extensive test in low light etc, but so far so good.

If you attach an IS enabled EF/EF-S lens, will that information transfer also - meaning, will the IS function when attached? That's my big concern here.

I think it does enable IS, but of course I am just looking at Mattias Burling's video when he is using the EF 200/2.8.

I would be very surprised if IS did not work!

I double checked. It does work.

Glad to hear it thanks for checking! Have you had any complaints with it as of yet? I'm trying to decide if there's any major reason why I should spend $100 more on the Fringer if the Viltrox works just as well.

OK - so the Viltrox came in the mail today - whoopeee (or so I thought).

I put it on the X-E2 and attached it with the Canon EF-S 10-18 F4.5-5.6 IS STM lens. Out of around 3 dozen attempts I only managed to get it to focus once - in all of the focus modes available on the X-E2 - horrible.

So my questions are:

1. How do you tell the FW on the adapter. Is it the same way you'd check your Fuji camera? I did it this way and it tells me the "lens" is version 1.1. That's only with the adapter attached to the X-E2 (no lens attached yet). So I'm guessing it assumes the Viltrox is a lens and it's at FW 1.1.

2. When you to their website (in China), all it shows for the Viltrox is FW 1.0 - I don't get it? What am I missing here.

That's the only thing about purchasing something like this from a Chinese company and there is so much that gets lost in translation.

But if I cannot get it to focus (will try it on my other Fuji cameras), then this baby is going back big time!

bummer.

I have the XT3 I must say it does work with the 70-200 and my 16-35 was no problem either. Pretty snappy too.

I updated the firmware real easy. just connect the Viltrox with a USB cable. and drag and drop de firmware. Easy.

Viltrox states that it is an adapter for the EF and EF-S lenses. The two lenses I attached - the EF-S 10-18 and the EF-S 55-250 did NOT AF. Only once in dozens of tries outdoors did it lock focus (only once).

I just now tried it on the following cameras:

X-T1

X-E2

X-A3

X-T100

And same issue with all of them. With these two particular EF-S lenses, the AF did not function (only once on the X-E2 and I could not replicate that again).

So it's going back. Gosh how I was hoping that this one adapter (despite the low price) would really function superbly. I guess it works better with the FF EF lenses. So in this instance, you get what you pay for. Will contact the seller to see what he can recommend.

And I don't want to pay 3 times more for the other brand adaptors.

Too bad the EFs lenses don't AF...and that is definitely a no go. I wonder if they work on the X-T3?

Well that is a disappointment.

I still use my Canon 70-200/4 IS, 24/2.8 IS, 28/2.8 IS, 35/2 IS, and 100/2 on a 5 year old Metabones III adapter on both my Sony a7 and a7iii... IS works on all and though focus takes about 1-2 seconds on the original a7, it is lightning fast on the a7iii.

Sort of surprised you never have been interested in the a7 line, knowing what I do about you and cameras...my a7iii is camera of the year, 2018, for TIPA. Fuji raked those awards last year.

Here is the EF 100/2 on the Metabones. I have included a shot afterwords with the 100/2 on a speed booster on the a6000, a camera I never really took to...so it should read 100/1.4 on the exif info.

Overall I don't really like adapters, but in the Metabones case it saved me a lot of money on buying new lenses. I did sell and replace my 17-40/4 and 24-105/4 with Sony native FE lenses however.

EF 100/2 on Sony a7
EF 100/2 on Sony a7

EF 100/2 on Sony a6000 with Metabones Speed Booster
EF 100/2 on Sony a6000 with Metabones Speed Booster

...but I've got to draw the line on how many systems (brands) I'm willing to go broke for. And with my being fully retired (with obvious less cash flow), adding the more expensive FF options available with the A7 (or 9) line (along with the expensive glass involved), is out of the question for me.

..and I had to go back and forth several times with the seller as it is obvious that English is not their first language. They kept misunderstanding me, wanting photos of the "damaged" converter. I kept (almost screaming) trying to tell them that there was no outward damage at all - that it is an internal electronic scenario that will not allow the EF-S lenses (the two I mentioned) to AF on any of my Fuji cameras.

So finally, this morning - after they sent off my emails to folks in China - they recommended I do a FW update (which I did) - but even then it was almost impossible to AF. So I have requested they authorize a return and refund (less their shipping I imagine). So it appears there's not much consistency with the samples floating around the marketplace. Again - the two lenses that would not function with this Viltrox, were the absolutely superb optically (yet very inexpensive) EF-S 10-18 and the EF-S 55-250. I was sooooo looking forward to them being able to function on my Fuji cameras. Oh well - I may have to investigate the more expensive Frindger versions.

Well, you could try selling a camera or two or twelve to free up some funds. Just a thought. ;-)

...that most of the "gee, it works OK with my lenses" responses (for the Viltrox) were with FF EF lenses - not the EF-S lenses. Now I could be wrong, but that's what I'm inferring with most of the responses (and some PM's) I've received.

The Fringer adapters mainly show FF lenses and very few EF-S lenses.
