Hi,

Ive been looking to buy a replacement for mij SLT-A55.

I'm thinking about the SLT-A68 and run in to a few questions.

On the chart of sony I can see that both my old kit lenses are usable but with
  • Focus area is only available for 61 points.
I've got a

SAL1855 DT3.5-5.6/18-55 SAM

SAL55200-2 DT4-5.6/55-200 SAM

It is not sure to me what the difference is with the KIT lens of the SLT-A68 (18-55)

Can I use this lens or should I buy the SLT-A68 with the 18-55 KIT?

Second question. Can I still use my MAxxum 3600HSD (with a ADP-MAA adaptor?)

Thanks,

The newer SAM II kit lens has the same optics and electronics but somewhat better mechanics and build quality. It is styled more like the 18-135 and 55-300 zooms. It has the same 61 focus point limitation. It does not support the latest communication standard on the more recent camera bodies for faster tracking like the SSM II lenses (and 16-50, 18-135 and 55-300.)
Second question. Can I still use my MAxxum 3600HSD (with a ADP-MAA adaptor?)
I believe so.

Both your lenses will work fine on the A68. The flash (with adapter) will also work, like it does on the A55.

Do not worry about the 61 AF points limitation. The AF performance will be way ahead of your A55.

I would not bother to take the A68 with kit lens; just take the one from the A55. Unless you want to sell the A55, maybe selling would be easier when you can sell it with the kit lens. In that case I also would order an A68 body only, and get a Sony DT 16-50 SSM or Sony 16-80 Carl Zeiss lens.

When I got my A77II, I tried the SAL1855 kit lens from my A55, and was not impressed. So, afterwards, I got an used Sony DT 16-80 Carl Zeiss (with 6 month guarantee from the shop) and that turned out to be a great lens for the A77II.

Thanks,
Two thumbs up for EXX's advise. That is the way to go...
