Long Live the ZS/TZ series...

Is that you in the second pic? ;)
No.

It's my friend Sal. I was trying out my new ZS20 at the time, zoomed it and took the shot. He never knew, til after, when I showed him.
You're a real Pana fan. ;=
Well, for sure I like Panasonic. Still do !

But...I was first a Canon fan. They brought me into digital photography, with the S30, back in 2003. My second camera (first was HP 315)

Since then, I bought and used the S50/60/70/80...years later the S90. Also owned the A620 and SX50. So 7 for Canon.

Also bought and used Samsung (1), Olympus (2), Casio (2) and Ricoh (4).

Oh..and Fuji (1)...oh...and Nikon (1).

I am a big Ricoh fan..this company makes cameras as if they too are photographers...tons of stuff to adjust....adding firmware updates with newer features...

I had 4 of their cameras, one a system camera, unique with changeable lens/sensors (yes they came together as one unit). GXR.

Still have and use it...now down to two Ricoh camera's. Nothing beats their handling and design for small cameras..one handed shooting clever folk over there.

so, saying all that, it seems I am a equal opportunity camera fan... :)

No discrimination here...I try and use many brands..still today.

For superzooms (only Nikon and Canon compete with Panasonic,IMHO)...I favor Panasonic. For landscapes and scenics...Ricoh

Interesting story how I became a Panasonic fan...if this one event didn't happen, who knows if i would of ever used a Panasonic. Perhaps some would not believe it..

I do not know what makes me like this image, it is a mix of nothing, yet ??? Perhaps It is because it is a TZ photo.

So many good shots here, Roland!!

Colorful, unique (like in the last photo) ...the Rose and other pink flower ...so beautiful!

You show off the ZS series wonderfully ! So many different subjects, from landscapes and architect, to doves, wide spacious skies.. .to close up flowers..well done!

P.S. have you chose not to try out the ZR5100 ?

Just curious

thanks

Great picture. I guess I skipped the 10. I had the 1, 5, then the 19 I think. I still have the 5 and the 19. Dependable cameras for sure. Later I owned the ZS60 and now have the 100, great cameras but they are both a little more than pocketable.

What the TZ is capable off, sorry The focus was on the wings, wonderful cameras.

Nice capture , John!

To be honest, I am a bit surprised by the noise at ISO 125. Shutter speeds seem to indicated this was not shot in low light.

The chroma (color) noise on the Bees head gives it away...then if looking zoomed in...then you see the noise pattern all over the image.

Doesn't take away anything from you capturing the shot (which is really good) but does say something about the TZ10. I had either this model, or the TZ9, briefly. Seen more noise than I'd like. It had the panoramic assist feature...but not the I.Q. of the ZS3 I had used .

Was it cropped a lot? If so disregard my thoughts, as that would also explain what I am seeing.

Enjoy your day

It's right there on the gallery page: 1,197 × 918 (1.1 MP)
Thanks. I looked at the image posted in the thread. Didn't bother to go to gallery page, as clicking on download original shows largest of that image.

Thanks for tying to help, but That could be a downsized image...no way of telling how much was cropped, from original. ??? Is that the size after cropping only?

Or was it cropped, edited and then downsized ?? I believe John also downsizes images here.

I shoot with 18MP ..many times at 9MP.....but downsize to post here, usually at 3.2MP

Based on your thinking, these all could seem like a big crop...but they are not.

They are just downsized , from original size...like most of us do here, and on many other Forums here. (Nature and Wildlife Forum, for example.)

Even most of the DPreview Challenges ask for no larger that around 3.2MP max.

Regarding John's Bee photo, It could of been of been a Huge crop..but wonder if i.resolution/i.zoom was used, as that usually sharpens the noise and adds artifacts.

Maybe it wan't a huge crop at all....

Maybe John will answer..then we will know for sure...otherwise..just guessing.

A stunning set ANAYV. The first and fourth shots are my favourites, with the fourth just ahead by a little, such superb rendition/colour.

So, I had to have a look back through the many folders over the years. Surprising how many images have never been touched and how those that pre-date my joining Flickr are less visible to me. I shall now need to create an album for TZ7 and update the TZ30 album.

Looking back, I do question why I felt the need to spend quite an amount of money on other cameras. But then, photography is my one and only hobby over a wide range of subject matter. Still, I suspect 80% could be covered by a TZ.

Thanks for the detailed response. I did not consider the points you raised.

Many reviewers and others complain about the slow lens of the TZs. Sure, if one is trying to take pictures of moving subjects I get the complaint. However, for the type of pictures I like to take, long shutter speeds (at base iso) are much more important. Even if I don't have a full size tripod with me I always carry a small table top tripod.

blame me for that...sorry :)

Probably....ah...the quest for better...when often times what we have is plenty good enough.

I think I should listen to what I just said, lol.

All excellent shots, Stuart!

Really...the composition, color , detail....and a diverse set of images...all showing off the ZS/TZ series.

I think you did a better job than I did.

Impressive stuff there, Stuart...perhaps worthy of it's own thread, me thinks (so more folk can see and enjoy these superb images).

Just my thoughts

Fantastic shots. Not sure which I like the best! Makes me wonder why I ever moved up to the TZ100 as I still have all my older models. The bird is lovely. Jack is terrific and I love the color that really pops with the boats.

Thanks Texas.
