Has anyone experienced this?

I tried a range of troubleshooting steps to discover why W10 64bit was reporting that no audio device driver (Realtek) was installed. None worked and W10 continued to report that no audio driver existed. Eventually I did a system restore to before KB4464330 and when this completed, the driver was recognised and sound was back. But of course the W10 Update juggernaut reinstalled the update, and the audio driver went AWOL again. On an off chance, I tried reinstalling an older audio Realtek driver and so far this seems to have stuck and the audio is fine.

No doubt Dell was me to update my audio driver again but I am reluctant to do this in case W10 sends the driver down a rabbit hole again.

It would be good to hear from anyone who has had this problem.

Yup, just had to download and reinstalled the Realtek audio driver from Dell website on my daughter's 7567 last night, too. Windows still see the HDMI audio and played only through the monitor, the internal speakers and headphone wasn't recognized, showing an exclamation on the Realtek in Device Manager.

Also, not sure why audio driver could be 300+MB? The weird thing is, my 7567, almost identical to hers still works fine. I removed the Realtek audio driver from mine a while back, though, as it caused boomy bass through the headphones.

Microsoft should really stop messing up and treating us as beta testers. Luckily I only use Windows to play Overwatch, everything works fine in Ubuntu.

Thanks. My problem definitely stemmed from the recent update. My audio was trundling along happily before the update. BUT - it seems ok with a previous (2016) Realtek driver. I don't know what it is about the more recent Realtek driver that the update does not like.

when i see issues like this caused by this new M$ update (1809) now i am really concerned what would the benefit of updating be because everything is already working fine on both my laptop and desktop! does anyone know what are the benefits of the latest M$ updates? what does it fix or enhances?

To be honest, I too am becoming weary of the every 6 month major updates. And this is coming from the guy who actually loves Windows 10 and DON'T mind tinkering with new builds, but the mess this release has caused for some (not me) should give Microsoft some serious concern and perhaps a reason to slow down a bit.

Anyway here's an interesting read from a long time tenforums.com poster whom I think makes a good argument of how Microsoft screwed the pooch here.

thanks sygnus21 for your response, and i think i am gonna postpone the update a few more weeks until the dust clears. although, i had a few updates on my laptop last night and i thought it was 1809 but i checked and noticed it is still 1803! whatever!

I stuck with Win 8.1'because everything works. Win 10 didn't offer anything I needed. It also seemed too much like invasive OS trying to create a smartphone like interface and OS. I install security updates only. I only need an OS system on a desktop to manage hardware, software, files and self diagnose problems. The rest added by win 10 is overload that just gets in way and adds ever changing features I don't need or what to spend the time on. Maybe Win 10 should have 2 options to select. Workstation that provides the basics I need for functionality and then full blown with every gee whiz feature that I don't need. My work station doesn't need to mimic my phone or tablet. Also, most PC users can't deal with update bugs that delete files or trash sound cards. That's why I suggest a Chromebook to buyers looking for basic uses... Touch screen, easy auto updates, android tablet apps and so far no difficult bugs to solve.

looking at this "free" windows10 update from M$ and now major upgrade every 6months, i think M$ is trying to make windows 10 as much intrusive in users lives as much as possible, just like facebook and google! as i can see the trajectory, i can see that M$ will declare a $10 a month fee on users, just like Adobe, and own all of the users, do you see what i mean? $10 a month is not as important as is it is the intrusiveness of M$ in users' everyday lives. welcome to social media design world! BTW, why there is no explanation of all these huge updates on M$ part to anyone...what is the meaning of all this?

Every major update I have had to reinstall my Realtek drivers. Go to Dell and download your sound drivers. I have not been able to install by just clicking the install

Select the extract without installing. That will bring this option. Select view folder.

In the folder select the RealtekHDAudiio

you'll then see this option

select the Setup.exe. It will delete any old files and reinstall your Realtek drivers having to restart the computer a couple of times. I have had to do this after every major update, Spring Edition, Creators Edition, and the new 1809 update. Hope this helps.

Honestly if you're going to run Windows 8, you might as well move to 10 as it is the superior of the two. And 10 is basically an improved version of 8 with some Windows 7 features in the start menu. And the same "invasive" argument you make about 10 was said of 8 when it came out. I know, I was a member of eightforums.com and remember the vitriol that followed it's release. I was also a user of the OS until 10 came out. In fact I built a new system around 8.1

Anyway, while I can (somewhat) understand some 7 holdouts', I fail to understand those of 8 users since 10 is more like 8 than 7.

It's moving in a direction it has to move in. We now live in a mobile world were social media and mobility of data is now the rule. That any OS competing in that world has to cater to those needs. Windows 10 as is today represents an OS of both past and present, while slowly embracing future technology.

As I'm fond of saying... technology marches forward, not backwards. And with that, comes change.

There was a time when houses were 7000 dollars, movies were a dime and so forth. Yes, there may come a time where Microsoft implements a subscription fee. And when that time comes, some with stay some will leave, and in the end we'll know the score. And did we forget we once paid for Windows (And still do)???

And many predicted the demise of Adobe when they implemented their subscription fee. Today Adobe appears to be I thriving, and their subscription hasn't' gone away. They certainly still have my business at 119 a year.

It's the world we live in today, and nothing is free (or free forever).

please don't get me wrong, i like win10 a lot, everything runs smooth on my laptop and desktop, i am just concerned about huge updates every 6 moths, that all i am concerned about. i am pretty sure when i update to 1809, everything will be alright. and you are right in saying everything changes over time and nothing is for "free" ;-)

We both agree on the every six month updates. And I understand.

Peace:)

Thanks. Yes I got there in the end. A bit concerning that your realtek update was from 2013...
