10% off at retail CompUSA

Just called Ritz and they price matched the 10% off from Comp USA for me. Thank you for the info.

Shirleen
Just want to let you know that I picked up a DR at a local CompUSA
(Portland OR) store today. I brought a 10% off coupon with me and
got the DR (with starter lens) for $899 - 10% off.

Originally, I ordered a DR from RitzCamera.com. I'm going to cancel
it.

Here is a link to the coupon. Make sure that you print the first 2
pages (in .PDF) and bring them to a store. Good luck.

http://www.compusa.com/adproducts/html_ad/default.asp

BTW, I love the DR. I am using it with a 1GB microdrive. However,
I am still trying to figure out how to connect it to a Mac, running
10.2.6. I have the connect type set to PTP and still couldn't get
the camera to be recognized as a disk drive. Any one can offer a
quick help?

You are so welcome. For such a big item, 10% makes a difference. However, some of you may have to pay sales tax.

That's even better. No tax, free shipping. However, UPS Ground shipping does take a while. Hope you can be patient enough.

Oh I guess I didn't say....I already have received the DRebel. Got it last Thursday. Was the first one to pre order at the at Jantzen Beach store. I had it shipped to their store, free shipping as you said. It was shipped Fedex, I was surprised by that. Maybe when something comes by Ritz Express they ship it that way. Thanks again.

Could one of you gurus help this G3 owner understand the 300D
kit lens? I'd like to upgrade to the 300D for better high ISO
photography. But with the kit lens I'm going from an F2-F2.8 lens
to an F3.5-F5.6, so what I gain in high ISO smoothness I lose in
lens speed. Is this right?
f/2 to f/3.5 is 2-1/2 stops, and f/2.8 to f/5.6 is two stops, so you do lose a fair amount of brightness. But the Digital Rebel's ISO 800 is cleaner than the ISO 200 of pretty much any small-sensor digicam, so you get at least two stops back on the sensitivity side. So, exposure-wise, it's pretty much a toss.
And is a 3.5-5.6 lens "worse" than a 2.0-2.8 one? While the first
is slower, you do get more DOF, correct?
If it's more DOF you're after, you can always stop down the lens. The maximum (wide open) apertures are what are listed. An f/3.5-5.6 lens doesn't mean that the aperture ranges from f/3.5 to f/5.6; it means that the maximum aperture varies between f/3.5 (at the wide end) and f/5.6 (at the tele end). The minimum apertures may vary as well; I'm not sure what they are offhand, but they'd probably be in the range of f/22 to f/32.

So while what you say is true of both lenses at maximum aperture, it doesn't really mean anything because you could always step the f/2.0 down to f/3.5.
If so, why would Canon choose a much slower lens for their
300D than their G3? I'm sure there must have been technical
and marketing considerations.
It comes down to cost and packaging (which are, as you surmised, technical and marketing considerations). Lenses for small-sensor digicams can be made brighter and/or given a wider range because they produce a much smaller image circle. To produce a lens of comparable quality but producing an image circle large enough to cover an APS-sized sensor would result in a much more expensive and bulky lens.
I understand I can always buy more lenses, but for now would just
like to consider the 18-55.
For $100, it's hard to beat, even if you use it only as a wide angle ( 28mm) lens. The general consenus seems to be that while it's nothing to write home about, it's a serviceable lens.

Cheers,
Jeremy

I called and was told they would not honor it. I called back and walked them to the web site showing the discount and was told to e-mail thier customer service. I have and they also suggested I would get a call tomorrow.

We'll see what happens.

I placed an order with Ritz tonight and I was happy, until I saw this thread. I guess I should've read through the whole thing before doing anything but I canceled with Ritz. (instead of trying to get them to price match). I'm going to drive around to COMPUSA's tomorrrow and see if any of them still have the dRebel. Ah, the joy. :~

Got the last one from my local Best buy 12 hours ago. They accepted the coupon.

-However, it has 2 stuck pixels, is that worth returning? Does anybody else's Digital Rebel have no stuck pixels. How common is it? Otherwise, I am thrilled with it so far. No real exposure problems yet.
I got mine from BestBuy last week and had a stuck pixel in the
display. I drove back and had it exchanged without a problem.
Yeah, but a lot people still like to buy their stuff in person.
I'm waiting for Best Buy to have another preferred customer sale.
You get 10% coupons for all sorts of stuff and I could rack up a
lot of reward zone points.

I called local CompUSA and they held a D300, gave me the 10% off, 18 months same as chash, $59 2-year service plan $1013 including tax.

I think you lucked out -- my local Best Buy won't match the CompUSA
ad since there's not a CompUSA in my town (there is one an hours
drive away, though). The manager goes on to suggest I drive to a
Best Buy in the same town as the CompUSA so I can get my claim done
there. That's frustrating, but I'm willing to make a one hour
drive (err, photography trip) to save $100.

So I call one of the Best Buy's down there and explain my situation
-- they said they'd accept my receipt from the Best Buy up here and
price match down there, which is great. However, they then
mention that their policy excludes "one-of-a-kind or other limited
quantity offer". I don't know if CompUSA's 10% off deal falls into
this category, but I'm willing to try it out.
Just got back from best buy and they gave me the 10% off. The sales lady had to get the maniger to ask about it. You would think that they were lawers there when they went over it, but in the end gave it to me. When you go print the ad, print all of the ad, all four pages and the rules pages. Do it quick, it is only for this week, ends friday I think. Also if you buy from Best Buy sign up for there rewards zone. $10 for a year however you get money back. After 12,000 points you get $5 coupon back, and they give 5,000 to start off with, you get 100 points per dollar spent. Thats 89,900 points for the camera alone. That is $45 coupons back towards more stuff at best buy. After $10 for card, a $35 dollar gain is not bad.
Thanks again!

Think about buying a reader/writer from Scandisk. Bought one from Best Buy for $20 and is suppose to work with Mac according to book with it.

I hope they will, I don't see why not. I could tell they were reluctant to do so with me. In all fairness they were very polite about it though. The gentlemen I talked to said he would have to talk to his manager and then after a few minutes on hold he told me they would have to call the Comp USA store (which by the way, is practically accross the road from them) and verify that indeed they were in stock and honoring 10% off coupon on the the DRebel. Apparently so, as they called me back and said come on in and we will honor the 10% off.

I would imagine this could open up a can of worms as Ritz has large amount of these cameras so far. I'm sure they would like to avoid price matching on this one.

One last note......I looked online at Ritzcamera.com (beings I bought from the brick and mortor store) and their price matching policy shows CompUSA.com as one they will price match with. There may be some kind of loophole though.....who knows.

Good luck, let me know what happens.

I want to take advanatage of that $100 savings, but i'm in Vancouver so my original plan was to buy online from Ritz. Any way i can do that and still get them to price match?

Driving down to Seattle would be canceled out by having to pay duty as well as GST/PST (versus buying from Ritz, that is)

Thanks for the tip! I only got a 100% price match (not 110%) but can't complain... since they took it of my already price-matched price of $938!! So, I'm at $899.99 AFTER sales tax in MN! I wasn't quite sure how I was going to explain that they should give me yet another 10% when they matched the wrong price... so I walked away with a smile.

This camera rocks!

Thank-you for the info.

I got my 300D on 9/13 at $999 from BestBuy in Almaden. Thanks to your info, they just give me back $119 on the pricematch.

Did they honor the coupon retroactively? or how did you handle that
part?
Mine did. They refunded the difference plus 10% of the difference.
Did you just walk in with your receipt and the CompUSA coupon and
the gave you $100?

How many days was it from the original day of purchase?
I saw the online coupon which was good for a week and good for
CompUSA stores. I printed the page with 10% off all digital
cameras. The only thing I was hesitant on was that BestBuy might
say that CompUSA doesn't sell these or doesn't have any currently
in stock.

They looked at my receipt, looked at the coupon and were pretty
fast to start working on the refund. I didn't have to argue my
case, not that I should have had to. I believe, after talking with
some customer support people they ended up calling a CompUSA, not
sure. It was more trouble for them to figure out how to ring it
up. Was it a return and new price? Was it a price match? Just
some sort of refund? All I know is that I ended up walking out
$117 richer. ($100 price match + 10% of difference + tax)

They seem to be good for keeping their word as far as price
protection is concerned. They won't be matching any online price
but it is definitely worth keeping up with pricing after you buy
something from their store.

My old stereo receiver died this summer so I bought a replacement
form BestBuy. Sure enough, the next weekend I got a 10% discount
coupon from BestBuy in the mail. Not only that, when I went back
to get the 10% I checked the price of the reciever and it had been
marked down on sale. They matched the new price plus gave me the
10% off.
thanks in advance...
