NeatImage is god!

I just downloaded it yesterday. Wonderful software. I'll probably be buying it.

I just need to try out Applied Science Fiction's GEM software first.

I have found a trick that helps.

If you use an editing program that uses layers (I use PS 7) - you can save the Neatimage treated image to the clipboard, and then paste it over the original.

You now have a lot of options - 1) You can choose different ways to merge the two images. 2) You can use the sliders to control how much of the Neatimage image is combined, and 3) you can use a feathered eraser to control what areas are controlled and how much.

Nice work btw...

Very true... even my P4 2.4 Ghz computer takes a little time... I have about 784MB of RAM as well. I think it's all worth it though. It's better if you buy the software though, so you can do more batch processing. The trial version only lets you do 2 images at a time.

With the Digital Rebel though, the noise level is amazingly low. Imagine combining Neat image with images shot in ISO1600... you can get some great shots with good exposure.

As far as I am concerned, processing images with NI is really too slow and the interface is unclear. I find that having to deal with images like that is really boring. Little by little I got tired of NI and recently decided to remove it from my PC.

Well, if I had the professional version of NI and an extra computer, I would use Neat Image more. Not only is the program slow, but it interferes with the use of my computer.

You know, I've only had good experiences with Neat Image. I have a AMD 2800+ Barton w/ 1 GIG of RAM and it still goes a bit slow for 5MP jpg's, but the results are well worth the wait. I've been graphic designing with Adobe Photoshop for 5+ yrs and its difficult to even come close to what Neat Image does (in that amount of time).

The interface is a little difficult to use, but if you go to the Neat Image website there is a guided "tutorial" of how to use it, which really explains a lot. Its definitely a program I think anyone shooting digital should have, especially if you're gonna up the ISO :D

It only seems to have blurred and "jpeged" the background. I don't thin NI was needed for this shot. Perhaps for ISO1600...

I have a 717, so at 800 ISO I have a lot of noise... for that I use Neat Image and it does a great, great job!!!

I only got problems in portraits, as the hair gets tooo much soft and without much detail (I believe the program confuses the noise with the texture of hair).

It's really easy to use, if you don't want to play it it do that :
  • Select Your Picture
  • Go To the Device Noise Profile Tab
  • Select the area with the most noise in it, it's like a square tool
  • Then click on Rought Noise Analyser
  • Then click on AUTO FINE TUNE
  • Go on the Output Image TAB
  • Click apply
If you want to, you can resize your pic and do it on the resized pic it take less time. If it for printing, then do it for the whole resolution jpeg..
Look at the result i got, it's awesome!!!!!!!!

Yeah, hair is kind-of tricky. You shouldn't use Auto Fine-Tune for that and you need to keep your adjustments to a lower percentage on the sliders.

I was already impressed with the usable 1600iso of the DR. Now with this program, I'm thrilled. I just did this test. The image is not very good, but the output is amazing.

I love Neat Image, but there is one thing you should be careful... Neat Image sometimes makes pictures too soft, so learnt to play around with the settings. I'm curious to see how your prints come out as well.

This is a good example of why NI is not user-friendly: soooo many steps to carry out such a simple action. IMO there should be one single click for that!
