Fujifilm XF10 rival

My guess is the Ricoh will be much more expensive than the XF10.

So, not really a rival if you consider the price range.

There is more to a camera than price There are a fair few Ricoh owners who have an eye on the fuji

I think XF10 is a good camera at reasonable price. Fixed lens camera, if expensive, unlikely to be mainstream.

While hard core photographer's philosophy is that fixed lens forces one to be more creative, general public see it as "not having a zoom" constraint so inclined to pay less for such camera.

This is why Fuji X100 remained fairly a niche market. Fuji is trying to change that perception by introducing XF10.

With those specs, in a magnesium body, I hope it costs more than my other GRs. I don't want it to be cheaply made.

These cameras were never meant to be mainstream or one's only camera. I use the GR alongside my Fuji system because both cameras do things the other can't.

Wow great news! Anytime I travel of course I have a Fuji system with AND my Ricoh GR. I've looked at Fuji (XF10, XA, X70 closest...) a couple of times for the role that the GR plays in my game and the XF10 just don't quite fit the same niche for me. I value the GR because:
  • GR is smaller and shape is right to make it really pocketable.
  • GR Looks like a point and shot; doesn't attract attention.
  • Remarkable image quality; I always forget and then am reminded when I've done some work the camera.
  • Unique look to images - especially B&W. Has that "something" discussed here recently, shall we say character?
  • Built-in flash + hot shoe.
  • Customizable with 3 nearly instant setups ready to go.
The image stabilization; I see no downside for me. I often use this camera to shoot really quickly and have painfully lost a fair number of images due to camera shake.

The touch screen; haven't had a camera touch screen that I like yet. It's turned off on my X-E3. Maybe Ricoh can get right. I hope it still has some buttons just in case...

Anyway, I'm excited to see some development work on a successor camera. I hope they don't screw it up! ;)

if it was cheap they would have said so in the press release.

i bet it check in at $800 USD minimum. hard to compare to an XF10.

Huh? What are you comparing to? The Ricoh is fixed lens, single focal.

And after using the Xf10 for a few days, I'd have to say it isn't even much of a rival to the GRII. It's AF feels like fuji AF from 7 years ago. It is that bad...

I have been using the XF10 for a few weeks, and I love it. I have only had problems with the AF in low light. I find that when the light goes, the XF10 gets BADLY confused in AutoWB mode.

No built in flash is a deal-killer for me, so I will be keeping my Nikon Coolpix A. One of the great things about these fixed lens compacts is the high sync shutter speeds for fill flash , but apparently Ricoh doesn’t get that. Otherwise it looks great.

It’s always something....sigh. :-(
I fully agree with your feeling about the flash. Fill flash is such a useful, underappreciated adjunct. Clip on flash is such a pain in the butt. I have gone back and forth X100* vs Leica Q and one of the major advantages of the x100 is that handy little built in flash. My previous GR had it, can't believe they would leave it out of a long awaited update.

Will be a HUGE hit among the GR lovers, I may get one myself

Yeah, it CAN work ok sometimes in some situations. However, on the street when things move and there might not be the best contrast, it completely gets confused. Also, when I use it vertical, it does not lock sometimes. As you can see from my gear list, I use a lot Fujis. The X-E3, X100F, and X-Pro2 are great at AF. I can tell you this is the worst I've seen since the first generation Fujis like the X-Pro1 and X100. It really almost IS as bad as the X100 original I still have.

Not sure why the focus gets crippled on these types of cameras. It eould be great to have a seies of fixed lens camers 28mm,35mm and a 50mm with some fast focus in the x10 size. The povket rockets of the film days never got a leg up digitally. The x100 series is still quite large

The new hope of a GR III is the only thing keeping me from getting another GR II to ensure future joy.

Likewise; I’m all in for the current GR style pop up flash!
