Just goes to show how much a simple photograph can elicit for
people. I doubt that Steve had any of this in mind when he took the
photo, but it demostrates the power of the image quite well.
And Steve, very nice image. One day soon I will try some more
studio based things. Your work has always been an inspiration. And
I really enjoyed reading how you setup and prepared for the shoot.
"Do you have any eyeballs?"
This made me laugh very, very hard.

it reminds me of a horrifying but real story that I want to share.
In the 1980's, there was a famous poet in Beijing called Gu Cheng,
here is a line from his poem, it goes roughly like this:
The night gave me dark eyes,
but I used them to look for lights.
This line was very famous at that time, especially because the
country just came out of the Cultural Revolution, this line touched
people's heart.
Soon he married a girl from Shanghai and went to New Zealand. They
lived in a remote island with the Maulis. Occasionally he would go
to Germany to attend some literary activities. He's the kind of
guy like Jia Baoyu (if you've read The Dream of the Red Chamber or
the Story of the stone you know what I'm talking about). Somewhere
in the mid 90's, he killed his wife with an ax and hanged himself.
He was once at the top of Chinese poetry, and he used his eyes
"looking for lights". But life is never rosy, he ended up with his
dreams, now trashed because of his acts. Now that commercialism
quickly and decisively changed the whole Chinese society. He just
won't fit, few people will even remember him anymore.
