10% off at retail CompUSA

I now have one on hold at a CompUSA. Will pick it up this afternoon.

A thread on Fatwallet.com noted that one person who bought it there was shown the price CompUSA paid: $864.

Great deal. I just picked mine up at the local CompUSA for $945, no hassles. Marietta, GA has 5% sales tax. They had 2 when I went, so now they only have one left.

Just want to let you know that I picked up a DR at a local CompUSA
(Portland OR) store today. I brought a 10% off coupon with me and
got the DR (with starter lens) for $899 - 10% off.

Originally, I ordered a DR from RitzCamera.com. I'm going to cancel
it.

Here is a link to the coupon. Make sure that you print the first 2
pages (in .PDF) and bring them to a store. Good luck.

BTW, I love the DR. I am using it with a 1GB microdrive. However,
I am still trying to figure out how to connect it to a Mac, running
10.2.6. I have the connect type set to PTP and still couldn't get
the camera to be recognized as a disk drive. Any one can offer a
quick help?
I saw the post yesterday about and went down first thing this morning and had no problem with the discounted price. Picked up the 300D and am satisfied with the camera and the price!

CompUSA, Jacksonville FL had 2, neither out on display yet. Now they have one!

$899 WITH the lens! That's only $100 more than I paid for my Nikon 5400 just before Canon announced the Rebel.

If anyone would like a really good deal on a barely-used 5400 with extras, you can email me through Pbase:

I bought my DR on 9/13. I brought your coupon together with my receipt to BesyBuy today and got my money back!

Thanks again!

The hundred bucks off was the nugget that pushed me over the edge.

I'm now the proud owner of a dumbed down plastic piece of junk.... :o)

Best Buy offered to price match, but were out of stock. And compUSA were unaware that they had them in stock over the phone, but it was sitting right on the shelf when I went to check for myself - so check if you're serious.
They honored my printed out coupon with no problem.

Now I think I'll be busy for a while learning how to use the darn thing

Dave

First the forum tells me the camera is available at BB and I buy it, now it tells me there is a 10% price match!

Thanks Purez!

I just see a header that says "10% of digital cameras one week only" but no dates or fine print on it....what is it you printed out exactly?
Jordan
Did they honor the coupon retroactively? or how did you handle that
part?
Mine did. They refunded the difference plus 10% of the difference.
Did you just walk in with your receipt and the CompUSA coupon and
the gave you $100?

How many days was it from the original day of purchase?
I saw the online coupon which was good for a week and good for
CompUSA stores. I printed the page with 10% off all digital
cameras. The only thing I was hesitant on was that BestBuy might
say that CompUSA doesn't sell these or doesn't have any currently
in stock.

They looked at my receipt, looked at the coupon and were pretty
fast to start working on the refund. I didn't have to argue my
case, not that I should have had to. I believe, after talking with
some customer support people they ended up calling a CompUSA, not
sure. It was more trouble for them to figure out how to ring it
up. Was it a return and new price? Was it a price match? Just
some sort of refund? All I know is that I ended up walking out
$117 richer. ($100 price match + 10% of difference + tax)

They seem to be good for keeping their word as far as price
protection is concerned. They won't be matching any online price
but it is definitely worth keeping up with pricing after you buy
something from their store.

My old stereo receiver died this summer so I bought a replacement
form BestBuy. Sure enough, the next weekend I got a 10% discount
coupon from BestBuy in the mail. Not only that, when I went back
to get the 10% I checked the price of the reciever and it had been
marked down on sale. They matched the new price plus gave me the
10% off.
thanks in advance...

I think you lucked out -- my local Best Buy won't match the CompUSA ad since there's not a CompUSA in my town (there is one an hours drive away, though). The manager goes on to suggest I drive to a Best Buy in the same town as the CompUSA so I can get my claim done there. That's frustrating, but I'm willing to make a one hour drive (err, photography trip) to save $100.

So I call one of the Best Buy's down there and explain my situation -- they said they'd accept my receipt from the Best Buy up here and price match down there, which is great. However, they then mention that their policy excludes "one-of-a-kind or other limited quantity offer". I don't know if CompUSA's 10% off deal falls into this category, but I'm willing to try it out.
Thanks again!

Called my local CompUSA this morning and low and behold they had a demo and 2 others in stock. I had to pay sales tax of course, but that's still $100 more in my pocket. The guys at CompUSA had a hell of a time finding the camera (went to the back room 3 times) and eventually found it in what they refer to as "the cage". They said it was a brand new camera and they thought I was "lucky" to find it so soon on the market. When I wipped out the coupon for 10% off the guys at the counter said that they didn't think the coupon applied to such a new camera. I had them call the manager over. He looked the coupon over and sheepishly shook his head in disbelief. He then instructed the cashier to take the 10% off.

I'm pretty stoked about getting it for $900 (yes, with the kit lens). Competition is a wonderful thing! The 10% off deal if for this week only.

Anyone near Rockford, IL? There is one DR in Rockford tonight as of 19:00 hours 9/22/03. Good luck.

Could one of you gurus help this G3 owner understand the 300D kit lens? I'd like to upgrade to the 300D for better high ISO photography. But with the kit lens I'm going from an F2-F2.8 lens to an F3.5-F5.6, so what I gain in high ISO smoothness I lose in lens speed. Is this right?

And is a 3.5-5.6 lens "worse" than a 2.0-2.8 one? While the first is slower, you do get more DOF, correct? If so, why would Canon choose a much slower lens for their 300D than their G3? I'm sure there must have been technical and marketing considerations.

I understand I can always buy more lenses, but for now would just like to consider the 18-55.

Thanks,

Yobria

Thank you so much for the link, I went back to Best Buy tonight with the CompUSA coupons and got 116.60 (includes tax) back from my Rebel kit purchased on 9/13. So total with tax was $943.39 or $889.99 without tax.

Thank You!

Steve,

Yes you can. I bought mine last Saturday also. You have 14 days to do the price match. Just take the printed out CompUSA coupons with you and your receipt. Go to the service desk and I just told them I bought it last weekend and now the local CompUSA has it on sale for 10% off and showed him the coupon. He kept the coupons and gave me the 110% guarantee.

Good Luck,

What Portland Comp USA? I called Ritz to price match (where I bought my camera) and they asked which store....said if Comp USA had them in stock and would do 10% off of a Digital Rebel they would price match.
Thanks in advance for the info.
