A7Riii Misfires With Godox Trigger. Sony Says Not Supported.

Question in my mind is should the flash work reliably with EFCS? While turning it off is a workaround it’s not a fix. Perhaps some thing that Godox needs to fix?
That's exactly what I was wondering... It works without any issues with the A6500 (and previously my A9) with EFCS... So what's different about the A7Riii?
I've sent Godox an email to [email protected] If others do the same, we might see a firmware update.

No idea, I invested in Nissin flash from B&H with no issues with my A7iii.

As a aside, Nikon, Canon, Sony, you name it only support what they brand from lenses to flash to batteries and they usually have something about not using 3rd party stuff and maybe it voiding a warranty etc.

I will say in the history of 3rd party flash Metz has always been fantastic. Quantum instruments make good stuff.

When I shot a major brand as Nikon unless I could not afford it I always used Nikon flash.

Fuji X was very limited to flash options so you are a bit more stuck.

Sony has more... My main flash must have a high voltage connection so I can use an external battery back regardless of the power source inside the flash. I need 1-2 sec recycle
Nah, the other brands cost an arm and leg. Unless the photos are super critical, Godox is fine.
For me, they are critical. I shoot a couple runway fashion shows in the Fall and at least one large fundraiser walk with many hundreds as well in the Fall.

For this stuff the flash system is a decider if I buy into the given system. This is the first time since switching from Nikon to mirrorless I need to duplicate. Just saying I never shot these events with a mirrorless camera. I think Sony will come through and I think I made the mistake with stopping off with Fuji X first which I bought just 3 months ago and just sold it all. I think the shortest I have ever owned a given camera system. that was my fault.

I think Sony will do better.

I was on the Adorama site the other day looking at triggers for the Flashpoint 600 Pro TTL and both triggers come with a warning notice that says:

Take Note

Users of the Sony should note that R2 TTL function is still in the stages of development. Please watch for Flashpoint R2 firmware update

To Jump in. Do you have any experience with Metz flash for Sony or is it better to buy Sony branded flash.

I need a reliable flash for event photography and lots of flash with external battery packs

It is encouraging that they are working on a firmware update.

i see a couple weeks back there is a firmware update. Did you manage to solve this issue? im getting misfires from the xpro with the a7riii and a7iii and it drives me nuts.

Do you have EFCS turned on?

yes i do.. i was hoping though someone had tested this new update

But that notice has been up for a very long time (a year?)

I've only tested a few shots with my new AD400 Pro and everything went super well. This was using the XProS transmitter. Setup was as simple as turning it on and using. No pairing or setting up. I'll be doing a shoot later this week with this setup and will report if any misfires. I'll keep it in mind.. I use an A9.

You buy a $3,000 camera. Another thousand or two for lenses.

Is this worth it to save a few hundred dollars?
You're only saving money if you compare speedlights.

If any Sony user wants to buy a HSS monolight? Godox/Flashpoint or Profoto is the way to go and we will depend on these 3rd parties to work well. There is no Sony equivalent so I don't think your point of about 'saving' is relevant much.

Hello all!

I confirm godox's product like v860iis,x1ts,t685s will not work with a7iii,a7r3 or a9 with electronic curtain = on.All lastsest firmware!!

Anyone say no problems with me!!!Please test this case:

  • Electronic curtain = on
  • Flash mode: Manual
  • Single shot
  • Firing your camera slowly, about 2 seconds for 1 shot.(Don't testing with fast speed release button)

I think someone said the update cured needing to turn off EFCS but I was really more interested in getting the AF-assist working. There are only a couple of threads on the XPro update so the search facility may help.

I use Priolite Hot Sync lights (made in Germany), and even though they work perfectly at all power settings and shutter speeds up to 1/8000th with EFCS turned ON with my A7R2, Priolite actually recommends to have EFCS turned OFF.

So even though I have no problems with EFCS turned ON, I would say it's pretty normal to have it turned OFF when using flashes, or HSS in general.

If you're using Godox and having problems when EFCS is turned ON, I don't really see the big deal in just turning it OFF. I think it should be standard practice, IMO.
