Here is a blind test in between Z7 and A7Riii from a Chinese source.

People found it interesting when I shared one last time, it encouraged me to share it again.
These are SOOC, on tripod and you can click each image to see full size.

Please don't criticise about the fairness of such test, just give a try and have fun.

The Sony 24-70/4 is not very good, so it's pretty obvious which is which.

why is vignetting worst on the Z7?

any auto-correction applied?
The notes on the bottom said all in camera auto correction is set to on, and DR optimiser is off.

Ok, now let's see the blind test for the 24-70mm f2.8?

Oh, wait we can't 😉

For me, N:S is 5:4.

@24

The Nikkor is sharper in the corners, but the Sony is perhaps better just outside the center. The N vignettes a lot, suggesting that it's under-built.

@35

The N is generally better, but close to the center the S is better.

@70

The S is bad.

Well, it mainly shows the weakness of the 24-70 F4 I suppose.

I considered getting the 24-70 f4 since I love my 16-35 f4 so much, but after doing a little research and viewing images on Flickr it was a hard and easy pass. I picked the Z7 for every shot.

I wait for the Nikon 14-24/4 to dive in Z7

They should try a comparison of moving objects with a 70200.

That's a lens test ... and no, the 2470Z is not Sonys landscape lens ... by far.

Honestly, the 24-70/2.8 isn't much better than the 24-70/4.
Lol, Yeah, Ok.

I've read unsubstantiated comments before in this forum, but that one's a doosie.

The Sony 24-70 f4 is renowned for poor edge/corner performance, the Sony 24-70 f2.8 GM is in another class all together.

Yeah, I had both.
Great, why not post some images that support your claim?

Yeah I'd be happy to see it blown away by the Sony FE 12-24/4 😉

The Sony 14-24/4 is already not extraordinary lens. I think the 15-30/2.8 tamron is still better. So I wouldn't be surprised to see the nikkor above the Sony.

Moreover it is fact that the new Nikon mount is superior to the Sony mount so logically the lenses on this mount will be superior to the Sony one.

Let's see if the reviews state it too.

Alright. After being generally disappointed with the GM's corner performance, I did a comparison with the 24-70/4. These corner crops were processed from the raw files in RawTherapee using the neutral profile, no adjustments and no corrections. The camera was tripod mounted and the AF point was right on the water bottle label.

24-70/2.8 @24mm, f/4:

In my opinion, they both suck and the 24-105/4 spanks them both.

I would be curious to see a direct comparison with a Zeiss A-mount 24-70/2.8 on those exact same bodies.

I wouldn't say that it sucks, but it's not fantastic compared to what offers A-mount already... I mean, I can't be sold to switch to emount by what I see here, adding the fact that I dislike their form factor ... Let's wait to see what offer Nikon and Canon....

Well, credit to you for substantiating your claim.

I must say I'm shocked with how bad your GM is at f4.

Here's a link to a comparison discussion of both lenses on Fred Miranda forum:

Do you have a comparison shot with your Sony 24-105?
