Hi All

Now its been over a week since the launch anyone going to buy?

We know the cameras will work great but anyone changing there mind now the dust has settled?

I was really looking forward to Nikon mirrorless but will hold out to Z10 or what ever its called.

Should be all sorted out by the next release of a Z camera we will all be happy to buy one?

Cheers

Rob

So your question is if Nikon make a future camera that we would be happy to buy would we buy it?

Thought I was not going to buy but now solidly in the maybe column, almost there. But it's going to be a bit of time a year or two. So perhaps the Z7ii or whatever. My D750 serves well for now. But am interested in:
  • Lower Coma with Z series lenses for Astro. The 35/1.8S seems to be viable but of course have to wait for feedback.
  • Adding stability to my lenses that have none, eg Nikon 85 1.8G
  • Edge to edge sharpness.
Don't care about the CIPA numbers or the single card slot. The AF may not be up to D850 standards but so what for the way I shoot.

Lets see.

Yep.. That was one of the long and hard dust-storms 🙂

I will get a Z6, I guess. I really like IBIS, and I can imagine I would like the ergonomics of the camera. Besides, getting rid of the mirror, means there is one part less to cause trouble. I also expect the Z6 to be amazing at high ISO. I’m a believer 😄

I have had ML cameras before, and I like working with an EVF (if its good). It is like having at least some sort of preview. I also need a camera with a tilting screen.

Prices for D750 have gone extremy low, on the other hand - so I might get me one of those, and wait 🤪

For now I’m on a D7200, that gives me almost all I want. I love that camera more than anything I have used before..

I'm buying. I have an D850 and D750 and until yesterday a Sony a6300 with a CommLite adapter which wasn't bad, but not great..... 3 brands trying to work in concert and all.

At a minimum the Z6 will replace the video centric role of the a6300 in my bag with some big pluses;

- No more APS-C focal lengths, conversions and equivalancies.

- Nikon colours, button placement and grip

- All lenses stabilized

- Small(er) size for travel (compared to my DSLRs)

- One brand working perfectly in concert with F lens and FTZ adapter attached.

It won't replace my D850, but it might replace my D750 if after some time playing with it I feel it can. Or I might just keep it as a tertiary body. That part is undecided.

I played with the Z's last week and they are better in use than they are on paper and what rushed-to-press YouTubers would have you believe. I had placed a pre-order before seeing them in person and seeing them reaffirmed my decision. While some will wait for 2nd and 3rd generation, I see a way the first generation can change how and what I shoot now. Looking forward to it.

As far as I am concerned, I happily preordered a Z7 shortly after announcement. For my needs it will be one stellar camera. Native ISO 64, ibis, easy to adapt other Nikon glass makes this one a no-brainer.

I’m almost certain to buy a Z6, FTZ and 24-70, probably in the spring. I’m just waiting for real reviews of production cameras.

I'm waiting for detailed Z7 reviews from the various sources I trust and I'm also waiting to see if we get more information on the expected time frame for the 14-30 lens. In the meantime I'll see if Sony has anything up their sleeve.

i pre-oredered a z6 the day after it was announced, there's since been the EOS R and X-T3. the R actually doesn't do anything for me. the X-T3 was almost close to making me consider it, but the small grip and honestly smaller sensor are holding me back. i think Fuji are doing great things. Maybe the X-H2 will be a great camera, but who knows when that will come. so for now my Z pre-order stands. still, with Photokina around the corner there could be some big announcements, but honestly, I feel really happy with the Z6, it really is the camera I want. I don't care about 60p - I've never even shot in 4k so that's a massive upgrade to begin with. and the 2nd card slot, well, it would be nice but to be honest I've never had a camera that had a 2nd slot either. And I'm not a fast burst shooter or an auto-focus nut, so the Z series really covers the bases for me. only bummer is i haven't touched one yet, but hoping I get a chance to do that once the 7 is out

I'm looking to switch to FF coming from m4/3 and I'm in the "possibly" camp. It's between Nikon and Sony (Canon is ruled out due to no IBIS), and looking at the Z6 and A7III (or A7RIII as those sell at $2500 now if you search a little bit).

Initially I was disappointed by the announcement, but now I think overall Nikon has a great first entry and for my needs it's not lacking in any way. Just want to see official reviews of the production Z7 and production Z6 popup, as well as for the lenses they have.

I think I'll overall prefer the ergonomics of the Nikon over the Sony (I've shot with Canon DSLRs in the past and always appreciated the feel in hand, and my current Olympus EM-1 II is a bit on the small side). And I'll also like having the top LCD back for a quick glance at my exposure settings.

the Z7 has everything I need, some say it's not up to D850 (lack of dual card slot and maybe not as fast AF-C), but still it's more expensive. I was hoping for something lower than the D850 body. I'm 90% sure I will get it, but it's very close to my budget limit. I'm not sure that waiting for 1/2 - 1 year will lower the price, I hope to get it this year.

I'm mainly interested in landscapes, just an amateur, will probably never get to the "serious amateur" status!

I have not seen enough about autofocus for wildlife. I do have a preorder in for a Z7. The rest of the camera looks good for my uses.

There's a new storm in camera land. Seems Canon was sand bagging keeping their FF mirrorless hush hush. Now that cats out of the bag. And the Canon fans are already hating on it.

Will probably get an Z6 with the FTZ adapter if the production reviews of Z7 and the adapter are good.

Why not look at reviews of a Z6?
Because Z6 won't be out until the end of November and Z7's are shipping in less than 3 weeks. So the real reviews on both the camera and the adapter will soon be available and that should give a good indication of how things are.

Good stuff. Thanks for your observations.

I wasn't going to buy one, had no interest at this stage. However, after seeing the many good on line pre-release reviews and good articles on the AF, the excellent compatibility of the F mount lenses and the overall camera itself, I'm hooked. I have a Z7 on order.
