I saw my friend who is semi pro, she shoots a Nikon D3 and wow, a candia shot of a subject in a garden, the colours, the light, the dynamic range, the bokeh level, 50mm f1.8 only lens. I want one, I had done, I want one again but probably D3s.
I think they sell for about $1k NZD here, not sure what they sell for in the US.

Full frame just cant be beat. Its not going to die any time soon.

I want one for times when I know what Im going to shoot, ie a specific photo shoot.

Ive just sold the d850, still have a d5600 and my annoying a6000 menu lol.

Would prob get rid of the d5600 keep the lenses that have built up, and keep my a6000 as my travel cam.

But what about canon, the 5d,Mk2, that sells for the same price as the second version of the D3. Never owned a canon outside my ixus 120 which was sweet at the time and I love the colours. I guess it would mean an entire lens ecology sell off and buy, maybe not financially sensible.

I'm a Canon guy, but isn't the D850 FF? I'm not sure how to reconcile this with the sentence immediately previous to this.

You could have saved yourself all of that by keeping the D850. Was there something wrong with it?

Thanks mate, no I just needed the $3500 in my pocket. They sell new here for $5k. Have gotten by with APS-C for now. Can spare the price of an older nikon FF and have the lenses.

I just went back to read the thread, and although I don't really get your decisions, at least selling off the d850 had more context.

People buy and sell gear all the time. Why I sold it isnt anybodies business I think a decent human would agree on that, if I hadnt mentioned it nobody would be the wiser. But I did to give context to lens ecology.

The thread indicates I am still wanting a full frame and preferably Nikon.

Having worked with the d3s before, it takes amazing pics straight out of the camera. I dont feel I will miss to much drom the 850s trick bag, as far as just share enjoyment of shooting goes.

I probably shouldnt have even asked the question as its the only option that makes sense for me lens wise and price wise. Id love to try Canon one day but its a major overhaul.

Still not clear what you are looking for.

Why a D3? It is a great camera. No doubt about that but its a pro design. Good for fast paced sports. It has weather sealing. Do you need that stuff though? For about the same price you can get a D610. It has twice the megapixels and is better in low light. Its still not "bad" for wildlife or sports. It shoots at 6.5 FPS. If it were me I would go that route first.

Perhaps, but lets face it, if people read it, its pretty obvious. I guess I shouldnt assume people will put 2 and 2 together even when its stated. Ie I needed the cash in pocket, but I still want a FF DSLR (umm to the smart comment on FF dying off, Sony was mentioned, this was my point DSLR despite the amazing FF Sony Mirrorless, so jokes on you clever chum)

A cheap d3s :-)

Amongst the sharp and vague questioning, I realised its my only real option at that price point.

I think your best bet is the D3s. It will not disappoint. (Unless you don't like carrying the weight)

Thank you firstly for talking the time to think about an option.

Here the 610 is still closer to 2.5, Good camera. Great for landscape and astro.

But yes its also the wildlife and sports (more wildlife) I want. But you are right 6.5 is not to be sneezed at. Unlike my Sony though, the d3s shoots at its high speed with more keepers than the a6000, I always use 6fps now with my little camera.

I think you are also forgetting that English is not everyones first language on here so what you might think is obvious isn`t as you have discovered by members questioning your opening post.

You could also look at the D700, a very cheap and capable full frame camera from Nikon.

If its a hike Ill take the a6000 usually, or the d5600 which is only 450grams ~

But yes its not a fit camera hehe, could lose some weight. My friend just reinspired me to go back to it. Also not having to learn a new menu is helpful, although the tiny LCD isnt much help. You get what you pay for I guess.

Having just read the MOD's post, I realised that the D700 is also a good option. Really, it's a trimmed down D3. Not quite a D3s, but still very satisfying. Weight is less of a problem with that one.
 
Yep the D750 was what I first looked up used here then worked my way all the way down to d700 lol. 1/8000th, 8FPS, it is pretty close to the d3s. Priced very similarly here.

Don´t know your situation, your needs and such.

Canon 6D doesn´t have greatest dynamic range, but I would recommend that one. Can be found super cheap, eats super cheap, still very nice lenses. It is my goto setup on ultra budget. Then I would recommend Sony.

Your post was vague and meandering. Don't blame us for your vague messaging.

In any case, if you want a D3s buy it. I'd personally go for a D610 as a 3lb body with 10 year old IQ sounds like a nightmare. D610 will be much nicer to carry and has IQ that is competitive today for basically no money.
