Hello,

I own a d3200 for years with a 18-105 kit lens. I am saving money to move on something better and after a long search i i think i should go an a d750 and a used 24-70 2.8.

I found a huge list of prices and sellers in Europe (where i live) and i am not sure where should i move. In Greece the lowest price for just the body is about 1800€ but i found on ebay a grey market product brand new with 12 months seller warranty for about 900€. I read a lot of articles and forums about grey market and the ban on service stores in USA but i can not really figure out what is going on in Europe.

Anybody has any idea and what shiuld i do? If the price difference was about 100 € i would move on the authorised dealer but now it is half the price.

For the cost and availability, I buy from grey market lately. On my latest mirrorless, I had bought a new launched model 1 week before it was released by local authorized dealer, at 30+% discount on the listed price.

In return, I take my risk of no warranty coverage by original manufacture. Seller's warranty has 0 value to me. Touch wood my gears are free of problem in last 4~5 years when I turned to buy from grey market.

That sounds too good to be true. Real new gray market is not 50%; it’s typically 10% less. On eBay? Run away.

You clearly do not understand the grey market in Europe. One of the key factors is not paying the VAT, which is anywhere between 17% and 26% according to country. The sellers will always say things like "tax and duty prepaid" but what that really means is 'don't ask questions'.

That does of course make it illegal but many suppliers find ways around that. In addition, it depends on where the original purchase is made as there is no global pricing i.e. buying it wholesale in Hong Kong is cheaper then wholesale in (say) Greece.

All of these "savings" result in massive variance between a retail and a grey-market price in a European country.

The only problem with 'genuine' grey market, is when there is a problem with the product - no manufacturer's warranty and doubtful seller's warranty. You pays your money and you takes your chance.

I know that the selle's waranty is not going to mean a lot. And bearing in mind of course that i will have to pay for anything that may happen BUT it is the half price.

Even if i need to spend some money from any damage caused how much can it be?

If course if i receive a faluty product i can be refund immediately by paypal and ebay support.

It is not only that the ebay price is so low. I found also on amazon that body with not so big variation on price about 100$ but is also that the prices in Greece are super high in all camera equipment.

They also provide a 14 days money back guarantee and by using paypal and ebay support i never lost money before.

For half-off, I would buy gray market. I would also look very closely at the seller's reputation - their rating, how long they've been selling, and how many they've sold.

Same here.

I bought Nikon GM but you only get the sellers warranty. I do not think Nikon would service or fix a GM product. Then again IME dslr's hardly ever go wrong in the first year

I have however bought FujiFilm GM and Fuji repairs UK happily fixed the prodcut and renewed the warranty several times even though I told them it was GM.

900 EU seems correct as in the UK GM price is around £850 for a new d750 body.

No. E-infinity who I have use and whom provide excellent customer service, are asking £850 for brand new D750 body only.

Not even close to true. Sounds like you're completely unfamiliar with it.

Discount is usually 20-40%. And it varies depending on item and seller.

In fact when the Nikon D7200 was released at $1,200 I paid $800 for GM. I wasn't sure I really wanted it, but for that price I went for it.

Whether eBay or Amazon, look for the Square Trade warranty add-on.

Few years ago I bought a D7200 new, and for around $65 got a 4 year "drops and spills" warranty.

Mostly sits on a shelf, but if it falls off in the next half-year, I'm covered ;)

I got a Fuji X-100 T for £720 GM when they were £1099.

Yes... don't just look at the rating. Look at the transactions. If they are for penny items, run away. That is a popular scam.

Can you provide any link with that price? In uk i think the best i found was 1200£
https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/2338/nikon_d750_digital_slr_camera_body_only

Bought one camera from them - Fuji X-100 T and one lens from them.

Bought a D5300 also from Portus who used to be good but don't sell much anymore.

:)

Seems I got the price wrong - is £875.

BTW if you like Canon Cameraworld UK have the 6d mark i brand new non GM for £749.
D610 same sensor.... £679!

You think i shouldn't spend some more for d750 instead of d610?

If it was not GM i would go for the 610 vecause i wouldn't afford the d750 but now i can take it and still keep the change.

Get whichever you prefer, not what I prefer... 750d is a great camera!

Hi,
I would like to write my experience, Currently I am in Taiwan for few days and I was wondering about the same thing if the products of Nikon in Asia coming from GM or just from China/Japan then with lower taxes. I bought from Nikon store a few days ago the D500 body for 38.000 Taiwanese dollars = 1040 euros.
The product says is made in Thailand, the Serial number starts with number 9.
Of course I am happy for this purchase, I live in Europe and found big different price compare e-shops in Greece or Europe. The same product in Greece has 1570 euros.

Check the link about the pricing from different stores in Taiwan.

I am wondering if this product you found in UK or in EU site its coming as exported product without being marked in database of Nikon and for that we see this different pricing??

Regards

Of course, gray market means just that, they are from other countries and thus do not pay VAT etc.

We save money but do no get manufacturer's warranty, except with Fuji (in MY experience.)
