I'm trying to avoid using the diaphragm and focus rings which leave me only two tiny rings. The finish offers little adhesion. Thanksfully there's the little blue ball indicating how to align the lens otherwise I wouldn't be able to screw it all in without this extra grip that it offers.

This leaves me wondering if my struggle is normal? The fit is REALLY tight!!!

The Loxia lenses might be very tight at the beginning, but they loosen up - luckily without being lose after long term use. Love mine!

Agree. Initially it was hard to take it off the camera, but now it's fine. Not a problem at all.

Plus, you can grab the whole lens when attaching/reattaching. In an earlier thread regarding Loxia lenses, someone got a reply from a Zeiss representative saying using the stops of the focus ring could not damage the lens.

Interesting as I bought this lens as used. It looks brand new however.

For me the best way to mount it is to hold the hood and rotate.

To unmount I hold between the focus and aperture ring.

Why take it off, at all? =)

be careful - I've broken this rubber gasket on one of my loxias. this difficulty with mounting and weak gasket that can be teared up will certainly lower resale value of loxias. easily scratched as well.

but image quality is unprecedented!

Everything breaks with enough force. I've had my Loxia 50mm and 21mm since 2015 and 2016. I've used them almost daily, at least two or three times a week, taken tens of thousands of shots. Not managed to break any gasket, nor have I managed to scratch the surface of them. There is very faint wear visible at the sharp edge at the absolute front of the lens barrel on my 50mm, that's it. And I don't pamper my gear, not even close.
but image quality is unprecedented!
Sure is.
