New Z mount, no support for D series lenses?

We will soon find that out. But more important is that Z mount will put F mount to an end. It's only a matter of time.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Almost everything is only a matter of time. Doesn't matter to me. I'll be dead before that "matter of time" comes to pass.
I think that we'll see the same scenario with F mount that was with Nikon DX lenses since they moved to FX. Cause they need the whole new roadmap of lenses for Z mount. And that will be their priority. He who runs after two hares will catch neither.

No less than 5 years, more like 10 to 20 years.
I think that 5 years of new lenses for Z mount and no lenses for F mount will automatically finish F mount. That means a lot for me actually cause next year will be the last for my sigma 1.8 zooms duo and I wanted to move to FX, but now I realize that I'd better move to Z mount. Cause I don't want to sell everything again and again - bad business move.

You think those getting recently announced AF-Nikkor 500mm F/5.6E PF ED VR for $4,000 agree to immediately start the countdown?

What, no new SLRs for Nikon prized customers, the owners of Nikon high-caliber glass? Historically, when Canon abandoned FD mount there was a migration to Nikon.

How much F lenses Nikon is going to sell if they are signalling the end of F mount?

5 years for "no lenses for F mount" starting when, 2020? 2021?

Yes, provided the lenses you need are available. Of course you can support F lenses sales, using an adapter.

when I wear out every Nikon body I have with a focus motor.

I think so. Those long telephoto lenses made for sports and wildlife shooters work better with DSLRs now. That's what I've heard from users of those lenses in general.

They'll sell those bodies for those who want to buy them for a very long time. Just like they do it for crop DSLRs. Almost no DX lenses but they made D500 for the same crowd - people using long telephoto lenses.
How much F lenses Nikon is going to sell if they are signalling the end of F mount?
Not that many actually.

Starting from the announcement of Z mount. I thing that there will be some lenses but not many of those. They have a lot of work to do with Z mount, they can't ruin that project. Cameras are more intelligent now (I mean they have, or will have some AI that needs data and mirrorless is way better in delivering that). AI searches for faces, predicts action, analyzes shake, looks for the best parameters in that moment and in some future. And lenses for Z mount will be way different. Just look at how different are 35 1.8. The front element of that lens in Z mount is like a Sony 55 1.8 front element, the whole AF algorithm is different (PDAF, then CDAF). I think that the whole new philosophy is needed for those products. They will have no time to work with DSLR lenses.
That means a lot for me actually cause next year will be the last for my sigma 1.8 zooms duo and I wanted to move to FX, but now I realize that I'd better move to Z mount.

I think that adapter is like a crutch cause F mount lenses will be worse than Z mount lenses. But some people will still like some old lenses for that lo-fi look. And that's OK cause photography is art.

They developed the Z6 / Z7 while developing and bring to market D500, D850, D5, 105 1.4, 28 1.4, 24-70e, 70-200e, 400e, 500e, 600e, 800e, 180-400e + whatever I might be missing.

Are you actually aware that nobody knows what is Nikon strategy with Z mount? But what actually matters to me that my plan is not for 5 years. And the resale value of a dead mount lenses will be very low. I know that cause I remember how fast Minolta lenses dropped in price. And after selling all your gear for dirt cheap you'll have to buy some new pricey gear to do the same job actually. As simple as that. I used Canon SLRs, then I used Sony DSLRs for a while, now I use DX Nikon DSLR. I know that mostly you loose money when you sell your lenses to buy new ones. Cause good lenses cost a lot. So it's just a matter of time when you'll loose your money with F mount and how much. That doesn't look as a good strategy to me.

Someone has a gun.
For example - Sigma ARTs 35/50/85 are better optically at 1.4 than Nikons trio, Tamron 35/45/85 are not as good as Sigma but they have VR. So there is some competition. To withstand that competition Nikon should do some VR lenses or some sharp lenses or both. Or they can achieve both goals making some new lenses for Z mount. And they will be better cause the flange distance is way smaller and the mount is bigger and they can add IBIS to non VR lenses.

You can achieve the same goal (sharp picture) in different ways. And they produce equipment to make pictures at first. And all those long telephoto lenses as I've said is best suited to DSLRs nowadays, I don't argue with that from the first post here. It's a niche product for niche specialists.

What do you actually know about strategy and planning? Your sojourn from Canon to Sony and then Nikon DX is evidence enough for me that your opinions don't mean much.

I know enough. Do you actually understand that I spoke about SLRs in the days of film. Sony a100 was a nice camera in some ways. And I don't regret moving to Nikon. Time will tell who is right. Nowadays everything is happening fast.

And the resale value of a dead mount lenses will be very low.
Why? ;-)

Nikon is likely to continue selling most of the F mount lens range for some time as it will be a long time before they have a range of more than 50 Z mount lenses.

Pre FL second hand lenses take a bit of a hit when there is an FL update, just as my original 300 f2.8 VR did when a later version came out.

In this sense are you running scared of your own shadow?

If Nikon get it right and Canon do not, some Canon shooters migrate to Nikon and some former Nikon shooters transfer back from Sony then F mount lens demand, including second hand, could even go up :-)
