Took 6 weeks from BHPhoto but it finally arrived.

The long wait gave me time to look at the DPR Gallery - which i liked what i saw - and read a few reviews. The reviews were generally favorable, but i found that i like the lens even better when i got it.

Top reactions:

a. Its really sharp in the areas i care about - love that about it

b. Haven't seen any vignetting problems because LR takes care of it when i pull it up.

c. Close focusing is wonderful - its MFD is 7.5 inches from the sensor so one can place a foreground object slightly in front of the lens element and focus on it. So far, i've just been leaving the lens on f2.8. Using the zoom in combination with close focusing is fun in choosing how much of the environmental to include.

d. Haven't seen any focusing problems in AF except for a tiny yellow blossum in the picture below - needed to use the focus by wire for that and it worked fine in magnified mode.

d. Definitely will find a place in my day bag, except for extreme low light situations.

e. I like the bokeh

Biggest negatives:

1. The length of time to get it

2. I'm used to dealing with small prime lenses - this lens is fine for what it is, but i'm glad its no larger.

I ordered about the same time and am sitting here at work waiting to see if it got here today! Nice pics!

Nice shots.

I've had mine for about a week, replaced a good copy of the 24-70/4, I really like it. Its so much lighter than the GM, and the close focusing is a nice bonus - makes for some fun shots at 28mm wide open.

Its a great lens, hopefully Tamron brings more FE lenses.

Chris

Hi, Phil, I hate being critical about other peoples Photography, but could not let this slide, the Focusing is terrible and your Composition is well below par, the only pic that survived the carnage, was the Cat pic ,and i cropped that one, if the truth hurts, sorry mate.

The cat that survived the C/C test.

The OP wasn't showing his/her skills as a photographer, but was showing initial examples of the Tamron's bokeh and lack of vignetting after processing.

BTW: simply cropping the cat photo didn't exactly add anything more to the photo either, because we lose the environment in your crop, and we can't assess the nervousness of the background bokeh.

Thats a boring crop frankly to me. Here's a tip - its rude to crop someone else's art work without their permission.

I do all right in the composition area, been a member of 2 art galleries in the last 4 years, was a co-chair of two juried art shows in 2016 and 2017.

Doesn't seem like it, as critique wasn't the purpose of this thread :/

I think his photos are great and fit his style. While it personally isn't my style as I am more into landscapes, I think they are still great photos. I think you may benefit in the future from saying something like "great images, but I prefer my own style which is [...]" rather than risking being rude.

Cheers

I can't see that your post has anything to do with truth.

It seems to rely heavily on one person's opinion.

I thought the photos were pretty nice. But that's just my opinion.

Whatever your style is - one wants a lens that won't get in the way.

Best Cat picture I have seen on the internet!

Hmm, the account is nine years old, but a low total post count. Current activity features horrendously broken English, claims of running 3 systems, but little discrete knowledge of post processing or camera settings. Maybe the guy got hacked, or some kid took his laptop.

Yep, it wasn't a bad cat picture. The times i deliberately try to take a cat picture - they typically won't cooperate - here where i didn't care about the cat, just trying to show close focus, the cat turns her head at the last moment for a nice profile.

This shot and the cat picture show how good the Tamron is. Even up against more expensive lenses.

Any landscape samples you can share at infinity? Debating between this and the 24-105mm f4 still.
