Lightroom Catalog on PC (Desktop) & Mac (Laptop)

DP Team,

Looking for some advice for Lightroom catalog on two computers.

I would like to work off of both my desktop and my laptop for my lightroom catalog. What are my options. I have a NAS at home that I can utilize etc.

I found I spend more time not in my office and editing photos on my laptop on the sofa. Would like to be able to keep a working catalog up to date while not being tied to the desk. Also when I travel would like to have access as well.

If I use a USB C drive connected via switch to both the Mac and the PC for when using each operating system will the catalog be fine as long as the drives are mapped?

Yes, as long as you allow for the difference between windows and OSX disk naming.

Not sure exactly what you mean as far as naming. Can you elaborate?

For example, in Windows my photo image disk name shows up as:

"E:/KRS Photos"

followed by subfolders

In OS X on the MAC, the drive of photos is named like this:

"KRS Macbook" Pro (I changed the drive name from the default)

Then subfolders:

KRS Photos

That's what I mean by drive naming. By understanding the difference, you can point LR to the right folder(s)

Also, in Windows you should assign a drive letter to the external drive you will be moving back and forth with OS X so LR will always see the same drive letter.
