I returned from a 4 month long self-financed photo adventure in Equatorial Guinea only to learn that Nikon had released a Mirrorless Full Frame Camera. In ecstatic joy I took my awfully heavy D850 and tossed it down the hill into the woods in back of my house. So what that the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II and SB-5000 were still on the body! This new Mirrorless Body would solve not only weight problems but other problems too!

Online with a photo buddy I told her what I'd done, she said 'Pal, that Mirrorless Full Frame Nikon Camera is not available in this universe'.

Whaaaattt?

So, I thought, now all I have is the J5 and the 1 Nikkor 32mm f/1.2 and 1 Nikkor VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6?

I haven't used them in years. No viewfinder and a 1-inch sensor. Oh boy.

I climbed down the hill in the woods and collected the remains. The SB-5000 was split in half but I glued it together. The 70-200 had a crack in the filter thread, but the hood saved the glass. And that monstrous D850 body, well it has some dirt and scratches.

I might post some photos from this outdated combo, but they won't be any good compared with what's coming, I'm certain.

I think someone needs to take a long hard look at themselves IN THE MIRROR, don't you think?

How dare you do that to that poor D850. Some people I'm this world would care for such a companion with tender gentleness. You, however are a spoiled so and so.

I will report this incident to the DSLR Protection Society, you have left me no choice. How dare you!

Don’t live in the present. Plan for the future!

With the new mirrorless coming out, you’d be just wasting time and valuable electricty taking photographs with your soon to be antiquated D850. And once the mirrorless is available, your D850 will stop working anyway.

**** that. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Live for today. Live in the moment. For all we know, especially with tonight's current ongoing Perseid Meteor Shower for all we know this could be the end if the world. Cherish every moment like this is your last day on Earth. The D850 is a reality. It exists! The Mirrorless 'whatever it is' is merely a dream (for some, for others a nightmare) yet to come true.

For all we know, these elusive ads that are showing up on Nikon's YouTube account could be hijacked fictitious creations by some teenage hacker in their mom's basement somewhere in a far away land we've never heard of. Keep it real. Cherish that trusty D850 beast! She may well save your bacon.

Oh boy, I feel like such a donkey now. I thought the FX forums were only for serious posters, which is why I came over here to escape all the trolling and in fighting going on over in all the other forums.

Yes of course I am aware of the sarcasm, I am playing a long too. Great fun. Much what's needed during these sad times that are about to embark upon us.

Without a Mirror anymore how are we ever going to carry on with Life as we have known it. Like brushing our hair? I don't want to be an avatar. I want to be a real man! I am not a number. Or an online nickname. I need my Mirror!

Ah, a double sarcasm. Yes, that’s another way to play the mirror madness.

Good thinking. But do not stop there, wait about twenty years to buy another.

By then a hyperbolic 4D projection camera will come along, capable of 4D recording at limitless frames per second and with only one lens which will cover focal lengths of 10mm -1000mm all at f2, sharp edge to edge.

No need to worry about the pictures missed in the intervening 20 years.

I knew the OP was being sarcastic as soon as I read that he had a D850 4 months ago. I thought they were STILL unavailable!!

Are you in a creative writing course in night school populated by divorcees by any chance?

Yet you kept your D600, your D810, your D500....

You didn't have the courage of your convictions, but you want our sympathy :-x

You should have thrown them after the D850, and waited for the crash as each flying body smashed into the previous one. Then you could have swept up the bits and forged them into a monument to the passing of the DSLR.

You might even have won an art prize (they like things like that), and given you the loot to throw at each iteration of Nikon mirrorless as they became available.

(and don't tell anybody but you might have had enough dosh left over to buy the odd D850...)

I am debating whether I should get a Tamron 150-600 G2 or a Nikon 200-500 love the Nikon but not too sure about the weight - the Nikon is 300 gram heavier - perhaps same weight saving if I go Mirrorless

So there you have it: could buy a lighter body but nothing we could do about the weight

I may just get the Tamron and keep my D850 !!!!

I use the 200-500 more than any other lens these days -- 'backyard birds' photos. And a macro/micro lens is second most used (Tamron SP 90 or Nikkor Micro 105). I use the 200-500 so much I decided I'd better strengthen my hands, and that helps.

Just sign up for a fitness program - I need to improve my strength - hopefully I will be a bit stronger and the 200-500 will be a bit cheaper once the Nikon ML hits the market hahahaha
