rof If you were given a version 5.5 that was previously registered by someone you can not upgrade from it. you have to be the original and only owner of an older program to upgrade to 7 or soon to 8 probably. you have to then buy the whole enchillada. however, photopshop elements 2 available around $75 if you look for it has most of

the useful stuff for even advanced amateurs. it is included with a lot of cameras and

scanners when you buy them. also you get a break i believe upgrading from that also.

When you get your upgrade CD from adobe, when installing it, you will be asked for a prior Photoshop serial number (or you must find the old version of photoshop on your hard drive) then you will enter the new serial number for your PS7 upgrade, that's it. (my suggestion is to erase your PS 5.5 to save hard drive space, and manually add the old serial number)

Some people say I have multiple personalities, but WE don't belive
them!

As I recall when I did a clean OS install on a new hard drive, I started with the upgrade CD (V7) and then was asked to insert a qualifying product (V5) into the drive in order to upgrade. Then, I was also asked for the serial number for the V7. Then I went thru the registration process for V7. It didn't matter whether I was registered for V5 or not.

I'm sure that the qualifying process will become more rigorous with each new version.

Version 4 is the last version still able to use the upgrade to version 7, so version 5 should be the last one for varsion 8 when it is released.

I assume that upgrades to the upgrades will still be possible?

I think so but call Photoshop and ask them. Don't trust a sales person over the phone to know this for certain. Also sometimes on the upgrade box it will tell you what version it can upgrade from. If the original version was registered with Photoshop then be sure you get the ownership of the original changed to your name with Photoshop or you will have trouble with the upgrade. Adobe is strict with their products. The upgrade will be a full version but it will depend on the registration code of the original to work.

Good Luck!

Actually that's not true - I contacted Adobe when PS7 was released and they told me that my old PS 3 registration would be acceptable.
