Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a flash unit for my x-t100. I looked at the godox 350 and nissin i40. The nissin i60a is totally out of my budget. I read some issues online that some of the flash units had old firmware that would not provide auto mode with HSS and TTL.

I need the following: HSS, full TTL (curtains, etc), titl and swivel and the plastic thing on the tip of the head for bouncing

Using for: day fillflash, portraits, indoor, shooting people only (like small events)

Any feedback on which to buy and certainty of latest firmware for full functionality?

Thanks in advance!

I would go Godox 350 over the Nissin i40. Godox has excellent pricing and connectivity across its product lines, which makes getting into multiple interflash setup easy and affordable.

As much as I like my two Nissin flashes and wireless trigger, I can't justify continued investment into Nissin due to the considerably higher prices.

Another drawback with Nissin is the need to mail in your flashes for firmware upgrades. Newer Nissin models are supposed to be user upgradeable, but, that doesn't help owners of the older models.

Godox every time - great kit, and it opens the door to their full range if you ever decide to go further.

350 is well built, quality is better than my old Canon speedlights.

Update the Godox firmware to the latest from their website - then you're good to go.

Camera will automatically pick up TTL, and you can adjust FEC from the camera flash menu. HSS is automatic, no need to do anything to set it up.

I use a stolen diffuser on mine, and use bounced a lot inside, then close it for fill outside.

Can't beat the price.

Fill flash test on the Fuji GFX - it's not the most powerful unit so ok in close, or as a fill in shade. If you need more reach/power go with a bigger model.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it arguing about camera features - go out and capture memories

Maybe you're thinking of the X100T, which has a leaf shutter which can natively sync with flash at any shutter speed? So does not need HSS.

I would think the X-T100 would be exactly the same at the X-T1, X-T2, GFX etc, with HSS to 1/8000 with the Godox flash

How are you liking the GFX?

I'm an old timer (started when we had to spool our film reels, both ways, in the dark, uphill!). I currently really like the Fuji system, but wouldn't mind more megapixels. I tried Sony & hated it- to be fair, I love the A7 with my legacy glass, tried the A7R2 but sold it because the colors weren't working for me for portraiture.

I wouldn't mind the Nikon D850 but the idea of going back to calibrating lenses for SLR cameras - yuck.

Currently for high pixel count, I'm looking at whatever Nikon has next and the GFX, especially with the 110mm lens, which I've heard nothing but good things about.

Also I'm guessing you mean Stofen diffuser, but hey - you spent a lot of money on your GFX, I wouldn't begrudge you a stolen diffuser too...

HSS is awesome - the power issues have been addressed with better HSS systems, and more powerful heads.

HSS against full noon sun is easily achieved, and at a very reasonable price point. (Godox)

Lack of HSS would be a show stopper for any body purchase.

  • Fujifilm GFX 50SGF32-64mmF4 R LM WR
  • ƒ/4.0
  • 41.8 mm
  • 1/500
  • ISO100
  • HSS using Godox AD600 into medium sized Octa, shot against mid-day sun.

LOL Yes stofen! Damn autocorrect :D

GFX is stunning. The resolution is killer, the Fuji color is all there, and the lenses are the real stars - best I've ever owned. Perfect for my magazine editorial work.

Nice set-up :)

Personally I think led continuous is the future but I get your drift as your a pro.

No sign of LED lighting being able to complete the task demonstrated with HSS previously, any time soon.

Due to Insufficient power.

I've tested the Rotalux Neos - only good for very close fill in subdued lighting. Really they are a video lighting tool being dragged into stills use.

Nice idea, but still a ways away from being practical replacements for strobes.

Other things to consider:

LED lighting has a notchy spectrum, leading to inconsistent color and tone grads in images. Not WB, we're talking inconsistent color spectrum response.

Constant lighting shuts down the iris in the subjects eyes, giving a less satisfactory look to portraits. Asking your subject to stare into an LED bank delivering the power equivalent to a current 600W HSS head, is going to cause them considerable discomfort!

I use a Fuji EF-42 flash with my X-T100. These are about $160.

There are no issues with compatibility, although I have yet to find a situation in which the flash's focus assist light comes on. It might never happen with the X-T100.

No HSS of course, which the X-T100 does not support (as mentioned by several others in this thread).
