Hi all!

I've got X-S1, a nice versatile camera. Now one guy offers S100FS in mint condition for 100$. I've read many different threads with X-S1, S100FS, S200EXR cameras and sensors comparison, but still don't know if S100fs will give better IQ (except PF), sharpness and colour rendering in comparison to X-S1. Are there owners (former owners) of both cameras, who can say definitely whether it is worth to buy and keep both X-S1 and S100FS, or one of them (and which one) will stay on the shelf collecting dust? Should I give an S100FS a try?

Best Regards,

Oleg Gusev

No idea?

I have an S100, great camera. Why not have both because they both have slightly different qualities. The X-S1 is a great camera for high contrast outdoor situations because of its superior DR. The S100 has a higher resolution sensor and a bitingly sharp lens which makes it ideal for almost any sort of photography.

Hi Wellingtone100.

Thank you for encouraging answer!

Is s100fs usable at ISO 800?

86$ price for the camera with 2 batteries, 2 softboxes, 2 filters, YN flashgun, simple tripod and lowepro bag is tempting, isn't it?

Oleg Gusev

That is not a lot of money for a great camera and bits and pieces as well. You cant go wrong. My suggestion is to shoot the camera on as low an ISO as possible, its an old girl and back then raising the ISO much above base was not conducive to great images, hence the tripod heh heh.

Thanks CAcreeks for the link. Very informative review. It will help to make up my mind for sure.

Tank you for the hint. I'm an old Sigma user, so I know how use camera at low ISO. My F31fd gives accepable Jpeg results even at ISO 1600. I would be happy if F100fs not worse at high ISO than that little gem.

i have both and both are great camera, personally i feel the s100fs have slightly better sharpness however that's it, x-s1 beat it in near every other segment eg. wider & more tele reach lens, a more solid body (more robust on the button & rotate wheel, mine s100fs control wheel spoiled and after repair it spoil again within half year), a much better lcd/evf combo (with eye sensor)

And Fuji color and EXR sensor dynamic range nuances are my favorite of all cameras I've had.
