the specific self portrait timer (camera 1, page 12) is on or off. If on, it automatically becomes engaged when the lcd is pivoted almost 180 degrees. a self timer icon shows up, you press the shutter button, it counts 3 secs and fires. Can I set the RX100 VI selfie timer longer than the default 3 secs?
On the RX100V it's 2,5,10 seconds. Can I set the RX100 VI selfie timer longer than the default 3 secs?
Press / (Drive Mode) of the control wheel → [Self-timer]. You can also set the drive mode by selecting MENU→ (Camera Settings1) → [Drive Mode].Can I set the RX100 VI selfie timer longer than the default 3 secs?

And this is on the VI? This is true on the V, but is it also true on the VI? All I can find is YES and NO. The default is 3 seconds. I used the Menu selection. Shooting Assist - Camera settings - page 12/12 - Self-portrait/-timer.
Weird that the two methods would exist. I was using the camera, but I also have the Help Guide on my computer.

the camera also has a separate self timer drive mode, which can be used for anything, including selfies. choices are 2, 5,or 10 secs.
for a longer selfie timer,
1. camera 1, pg 12, turn self-portrait timer OFF. (if on it overrides self timer drive mode).
2. choose self timer drive mode, use either 5 or 10 secs.
btw, the 'Face Priority in AF' can help when taking selfies. It is in my Fn menu. easy to turn on when I want to learn how to use it. First I have to remember it is there as an option.
Good old Sony, leave it to them to have a similar setting, 'Face Priority in Multi Mtr'.
So, one in AF, presumably any method, any area size
Another ONLY when using Multi area size, I suppose shooting a group of people
I agree it is as confusing as it can be! And for what seemingly is a simple setting.Again, weird that both methods exist. Elliott says the one I used has to be turned off or else it over-rides the Drive mode selection. Reading the manual is no easy task so I have it as a pdf on my computer. Thanks for clearing this up - and thanks to Elliott also!
To quote Elliott: "camera 1, pg 12, turn self-portrait timer OFF. (if on it overrides self timer drive mode)."

left rocker default is drive mode. If you in-inadvertently hit it you can change drive mode, like getting to continuous from single, or self timer like you have done.
I have drive mode as first thing in my Fn menu, so I don't need it on left rocker. I reassign left rocker to AEL. I can still hit it by mistake, but, an asterisk appears in the info line bottom of lcd. see it, press the rocker again (it is a toggle) back to active exposure metering (asterisk disappears).
btw, I turn all sounds off. you can also leave only shutter sound on, so self timer makes no noise.
