300D released in Hong Kong!

Leading AV centre, 161 Johnston Rd.

Not parallel import either. I think I may have bought their first and only unit though....
Price of my colleague's is HK$8000 (with lens).
i saw the 300D in Wing SHing in MK and also a few other stores .
Didnt have time to play with it but I already have a D30 and it
looks the same size....although probably lighter . I think at the
moment I will keep the D30...

Taiwan is part of China? You must be kiding. Taiwan, like USA, has multiparty system, has a democratic elected president. China is a communist country, there leader is not elected by the people of China. They are totally different 2 countries. Anything made in Taiwan will say Made in Taiwan, never say Made in China.

The Chinese province of Taiwan or Chinese Taipei is not like USA and USA is not part of Great Britain though I use to think they were when I was very young, dont wish to go into politics but Taiwan is and always has been part of China and its were the Nationalist Chinese ended up, a bit like the two Koreas but without formal independent. Democratically elected? Well Dubya wasnt elected by a majority. You are wrong, product from Taiwan is sometimes called ROC "Republic of China", that is the semi official title the regime calls itself and it appears on its passport and currency.

Just got my hands on my colleague's new 300D + 18-55 (total HK$8000) and 55-200 (HK$1800). They're all very light, especially the 18-55. Took a few photos at ISO 800 and they looked good.

Like everyone else's kit, it is written on the box only that the camera is made in Japan while the lens is made in Taiwan.

Will go on a trip tonight, will do some comparison shots of 17-40L vs 18-55 when I come back.

PC
Does any 300D sold in Hong Kong show the country of origin on the
camera?

This is not a political forum. Your point of view were already debated in somewhere else. I don't want wasting my time here. You are welcome to Taiwan but don't forget your Chinese passport and obtain a Taiwan visa. Please don't confuse everyone in this forum in saying 300D is "Made in China". To get Taiwan is Chinese big dream. Goodby and keep dreaming.

YOu made it into a false political forum, I point out the fact so you are wasting your time creating a fantasy perspective. I have a HK ID card but I still need a visa of some sort to visit the mainland and likewise Chinese nationals need similar document if they visit different provinces within the country which includes Chinese Taipei.

I take it you are a Canon user, well Canon Inc. was heavily fined and apologised to China a few years ago for accidentally qouting on a CD of a Chinese singer from Taiwan as having visited HK and China in her international tour and immediately withdrawn all reference to this in their CDs after recieving complaints from ordinary Chinese. If Canon dont recognise Taiwan as seperate country then that sums it up on this forum.

It's available in limited quanitities in the stores.
Checked with Cathay Photo here in Singapore. 10 pcs came in, 10 pcs all sold.

S$1850.00 (about US1057.00) @1.75 exchange rate
Body "Made in Japan"
Lens "Made in Taiwan"

Looks like a trend here.

300D from Japan
Kiss from Japan
Rebel from Taiwan.

Just some wild guesses. Can be confirmed once 300D releases in Europe.

I look forward to seeing the samples from HK (or Japanese) models.

Does it says "made in Japan" on the body or on the box?

Many people would be interested to know what you think of the 55-200 as well if you get the chance. It seems the logical choice to go with the kit lens but the old 55-200 has been criticised so it would be interesting to see what the new one is like.

I hope to get my 300D in the next few days if there are any left!

Has anyone tried Tin Cheung yet . I have seen the cameras in other shops but if I buy a 300D one without selling my D30 I will also have to look for a new wife to go with the new camera....
if i have time i will pop tomorrow and see what deal i can arrange.

Yeah, I went in today and they had it in stock but they told me $8900 (as opposed to $8000 a couple of weeks ago) so I didn't get it. There're a couple of places in Wan Chai selling it for 7880/7980 but they're waiting for new stock next week so I've asked them to call me when they come in.

Let me know if you neg a better price from Tin Cheung! I'd have liked to have got it from them but I'm not going to pay 1000 over the odds.

Try your luck at Kowloon Photo Service in Yaumatei. Thought they still have a few in stock. Body+Kit=8000. Trouble free aftersale is worth the extra $20 or so vs small Wanchai stores.

For sure, I'll give them a try tomorrow. $20 extra is no problem, just balked at 1000! Thanks a lot for the info Ashley.

Agreed , even with a good price for my D30 I wouldnt pay 1000 over the top...I can always try selling the D30 privately....

So the cheapest place to get this is in Wanchai... with Yau Ma Tei costing a little more?

Which shops in Wanchai and where?

Thanks!

Leading AV centre, 161 Johnston Rd. As mentioned by sxc above.

Plus Master (OA) Company in Wan Chai Computer Centre (practically the first shop you come to as you come up the escalator into the Centre).

They're both out of stock though, but say they'll have more next week. As Ashley says they're both small stores selling allsorts rather than specialist camera shops.
