Hi,

I’m looking for advice. I have a new Batis 25mm arriving next week. I would like to make sure I have a good copy as I read that that’s a possibility.

If someone could let me know the best method of determining if I have a good copy, or, with Zeiss, my chances are high that I will have a good copy.

Thanks,

John

Your chances are very high to extremely high. As for test, I suggest Gletscherbruch. Less error prone than the walls. Also less boring :)

Since you are new to Sony, and since A7iii is quite complex with tons of choices how to setup and configure, I strongly recommend you get the Gary Friedmann eBook.

Congrats to your new cam!

PS: what’s your next lens after Batis 25?

Thanks! I will Google the test you mention.

I have the Friedmann book and have read it cover to cover a couple of times. I took his advice in terms of setup. Once I have a good understanding of how the camera performs I will start riffing.

Next lens? Please don’t get me started, but probably the 55mm. It will be a while before I have the $s thought.

Bless you!

New to full frame. New to Sony with an A7iii.
My b25 is 2nd copy, 1st one was blur in almost 1/3 frame.

I normally find a higher floor to shoot ground, wide open, checking 4 corners.

What a treat to get such a fine lens!

For testing, a suggestion is to photograph different types of scenes at all apertures.

For example, landscapes: put foliage in the foreground.

As you stop down, the DOF will increase and you can note at what point the objects in the background give acceptable detail, and at what point detail of the foliage in the foreground becomes not acceptable due to diffraction.

This type of scene also lets you check edge detail.

I have three Batis lenses with the 25mm arriving a couple weeks ago. All have been sharp and well made. Given that I can be a backyard flower photographer I'm enjoying the 25's close focus a lot. Here's a shot of a Calla Lilly I recently planted.
