Hi guys,

finally bought the A7iii and I got it with the 85 f1.8; now I am looking for a complimenting lense. Most chase a toddler and do some travel street/landscape.

just saved up for a 25mm Batis and finally have just enough to pull the trigger, but I want to make sure I am looking at the right lenses.

other ones I looked at were the zony 35f2.8, samyang 35f2.8, loxia 50mm f2 along with the 28? Camera store is doing that loxia for 549 used

budget 1300

thanks

"Do or Do Not, There is no try."
Only you can answer what is best for you. I chose the FE24-105G f4.0 and have no regrets.

This 24-105 is almost universally acclaimed as THE exceptional zoom of its type but it's typically much larger and a tad bit less sharp than your average prime. That 'tad bit less sharp' might still be considered as very, very good by many, if not most, photographers. It's a great walk-around lens, but only the OP can decide if the modest trade-offs are worth it .

Any reason the 28mm f2 is ruled out? Hits the street and landscapes needs.

+1 With only having the 85mm, I choose the 24-105mm as well.
I plan on getting the Tamron 28-75 F2.8.8
From the thread heading, i didn't realize the Tammy FE28-75 f2.8 was in the fray. I suspect it will prove to be a nice lens and a great value.

For years I used an A-mount Tamron 28-75 f2.8 indoors and a slower Minolta 28-135 outdoors for its much greater versatility. Given modern sensor's minimal noise, I find lowish level lighting doable at f4.0 and I seldom shoot anything at anything less than f4 unless desperation ensues. YMMV and flashes do exist. That shouldn't in the least be taken as a snide comment.

This image was shot in poor lighting last year at the PhotoPlus Expo Sony booth in NYC on my camera before I had even ordered the lens and shows the real-world compromises involved with an f4.0 lens. I was limited to F4 and that entailed ISO1600 exposure to keep the shutter speed up with a living/breathing subject. Still...we can see that even at f4 that far eye is rapidly becoming blurred. F2.8 would be significantly worse ...or better...as is one's preference.

Great plan,

I own the new Tamron FE 28-75mm f2.8 and a couple of years ago I used to own the FE 28mm f2, FE 35mm f2.8, FE 50mm f2.8 macro, and recently the FE 85mm f1.8

IMO the Tamron is so good it can replace all of the above (except the 85mm if you really need faster than f2.8 (I usually stopped it down to f2.8 anyway).

Decided that if I was going to get something wider than the 35mm it be the Batis 25

IMHO, I think a lot depends on how much travel/landscape v toddler you're going to shoot. If the former is a significant percentage, I think you're going to find the 35mm a bit to narrow for all your needs; if the latter is where you'll be shooting the most, the 35mm could do well. My reasoning: I just spend the day with my a6300 / 16-70 and a7r3 with the 70-300. The latter was great for the reach and even some candid street shots. But I struggled a bit with the wide end of the 16-70. I managed to get most of the shots I wanted, but found myself wishing that I had brought one of my wider lenses with me. In other words, if your choice is between 2 primes (35 and 25) right now, I'd personally go with the 25, especially considering the Zeiss promotion. Others above have commented on the zooms.

I'll be shortly selling on my 35mm f2.8 for the Batis 25mm.

Nothing wrong with the 35mm - I just tend not to use it, it doesn't particularly have me lusting after it.
