I’ve had a lot of digital camera bodies over the last 15 years and I’ve enjoyed using them all, but without doubt my current body the Canon 5D MKIV is my all time favourite. Yes, it cost ten times as much as some of my previous models but its not just that it feels to be somewhat of a luxury considering I’m just an amateur photographer. It’s the usability and image quality that really makes it a camera to cherish. I can see me staying with this body until pension day. Then again I thought that about the Nikon D700 a long while back.

Let me know your thoughts on your favourite body and why and if possible, your all time favourite rig (My fav rig at the moment is the 5D MK1V & Canon 24-70 2.8)

Thanks

There was quite a learning curve to this D7100, so many buttons and configuration options. But after learning what I needed, and learning to ignore the rest, I've really taken to it.

With a little practice the D7100 quickly became more efficient and effective than the D5000 or D3300, the only other serious digital cameras I've used.

If that wasn't true then I would have been pretty stupid to have moved from a better camera to a worse one.

If you had asked what was my "favourite" rather than "best" camera them my answer would be different, perhaps a Sony F717 in my case.

The best dslr I have owned is the one I have now, a Nikon D800, the focus module is great, all my FX lenses work as they were intended, high ISO is a revelation, the files are massive and extremely detailed giving loads and loads of cropping potential if I need it, start up is instant and battery performance is fantastic.

I don't really have a favourite lens but so far I use it mostly with my Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 or my Nikon 50mm f1.8. although I use it with my 3 other lenses also.

If by best, you mean that one that I enjoy using the most then I'd say my Leica M9, sure it's almost 9 years old and most of the lens I use are 15-60 years old but I have no plans on replacing it anytime soon.

except that if they have to be body only (ILC) as I'm still on my first one but i think I'll ignore that. I really can't rate them. My first digital was a Nikon Coolpix 5000 to which I am indebted for teaching me the basics of digital photography. I loved it's articulated screen and wide angle converter.

Next was a Sony R1. That was a truly innovative design and ergonomically marvellous. The articulated screen was on top so the whole rear was sprinkled with dedicated buttons. And it had a fantastic lens (Vario-Sonnar 24-120mme/2,8-4,8). And it got me 4 books about architectural heritage.

My present camera is a Panasonic GX7. Even though it comes short of the Sony in 2 aspects (tilt only screen and unlive blinkies) Im more or less in love with it. It has a tactile quality and density and, build, a matter-of-fact but quite neat and compact design that add up to a most enjoyable object. My favourite functions are touch screen focus and magnification. My "rig" is the body with a permanently attached Arca Swiss L bracket. That and perhaps the Pana 20/1.7, maybe add the panorama rig or the shift adapter and it becomes quite a little monster of a machine.

Best body has got to be the Pentax KP. Haven't yet found the perfect lens for it, although the FA 43mm comes close. Note that this is"body only" not complete rig or kit, nor does it factor in shooting experience, as that is a function of complete rig/kit in my book.

Awful experience yes. Especially as I’d only bought it four or five months before and was my first full framer. Those shots :o {starts drooling} buuut … what could I do? I sold my baby and the guy who bought it held it in his hands, really gently and said “This is such a nice camera” :’{

Then again yes, the Canon 5D IV is far better than the Nikon D700. But so was the 5D II which is why I bought it instead of buying another D700 when the money situation eased up. So I’m fickle and well as a brand jumper :/

Canon 350D.

That camera made 'proper DSLR' photography accessible to me, and set me on the course to where I am today.

I doubt that there will ever be a better body.

Typically my newest is my favorite going pack to my teenage years with Argus, Yashica and Pentax. Then a used Nikon F in college followed by an F3. But today it’s the Nikon 850 with its outstanding AF, high frame rate, excellent DR/resolution, and many other features.

I love my 5D IV bodies and associated high-end lenses. These bad boys are light years better than the stuff I used back in the film era.

My most groundbreaking cameras, however, were the original Canon 1D cameras I bought when I transitioned from film to digital--at $5000 a pop! I was so excited I'd go around showing them to other 'togs.

1DS MK III.

Old age and liking small and light so settled on Olympus M4/3 gear.

Been through a few bodies but peace at last for me with the Olympus E-P5. The in-body stabilisation and anti-shock firmware married to the 12-40/2.8 lens (and 35-100/2.8 also) and life is easy and the photography reliable and predictable.

I'm happy and can't see anything else that I'd like to buy.

Regards.... Guy
