Minolta DiMAGE Z1 - 10x Optical Zoom

30fps 640x480 Movie with Sound

Very fast camera (startup, focus, cycle times, etc.)

But, it's using a 3 Megapixel 1/2.7" CCD (these smaller CCD's seem to be the trend), so I don't know how the image quality will be. Probably about like the Canon A70 (a little noise in lower light).

But, that's the only way to get a compact camera with a long zoom (smaller CCD).

Also consider the recently announced Kyocera SL300R. It's got a 640x480 30fps mode... but it will be a short while before it's available in stores.

apart from the ones mentioned already, from what I recall:
  • some of Fuji's previous cameras, including the M603 and S602.
  • some Sanyo models. Hard to find at retail, but I believe B&H or Ado or J&R carry them (in the USA market)
there's some more but I don't recall them right now...

I have been out of touch for 4 days, because of hurricane Isabel, but please note that the low cost Sony p72 has avery good 640.480 30f/s movie mode.

Could you post a sample? The one I found at Steve's digicams was very disappointing.

All the video samples coming from Sony cameras(I have Steve's digicams' video samples from nearly every camera in the P-series and V1)are overly compressed, very pixelated(especially the one for P10) and are not nearly as smooth as the videos I've taken with the F601 which is 15FPS.

The best videoclip so far that I have seen is MJPEG rather than MPEG from fuji F700. I am talking about the whole frame 30fs and it is easy to be read by quicktime. snayo has something like fuji but not being able to open it.I gave up on MPEG sony style. also another factor is teh size of CCD. the one with 1/2.7 is too small so I want 1/8 or 1/7 ccd. This is the case with xacti sanyo which has small CCD so full of noise. also another factor which was not that important the to have CF rather than SD or XD. one more thing I like to have 640/480 option and 30fs and not 15fs. so far fuji's are the winner.

Is the dpreview spec incorrect?

Sorry, I made a mistake. The Sony P72 has 640/480 at 16 f/s, not 30 as I stated.
