I had pre ordered this lens with my A7RIII and cancelled thinking why step down from my 24-70GM and was going to take a wait and see approach. Well the reviews have been so good I ordered one from Adorama and after a month I got it yesterday.

I just stepped out my back door and took a few shots and from a quick eyeball I can say I like the color and the lens appears to be pretty good.

It was smaller than I anticapated which is a nice surprise and feels well built.

I will test it against my seldom used 24-70GM and maybe my 50 1.4 and 85 1.8 as a benchmark. If it close enough to my 24-70GM I may sell the GM and use the 24-105G or my 16-35GM and a 50 1.4 or 85 1.8 instead.

I know it will not equal my best primes but never expected it to. A lot of things I shoot or document and events, casual car shows not national concours, walking around a city I don't need the ultimate. Besides from what I can see so far on a A7RIII it's no slouch.

Most people think highly of this lens. I like the balance on my A7iii with a battery grip. The range is perfect for a one-lens vacation. Yes, a little wider would be great. I do have the new Tamron on order, but don't need the f2.8 for my upcoming vacation. The reach to 105 is more useful.

Sunday walk with my daughter

Raw with C1, 24-105 profil turned on, no other distorsion or corners corrections

I’m a fan myself. It was my first and only current lens with the 7R3 after leaving canon and selling all my gear. I have the 16-35 GM en route to me now. I’ll prob end up getting the 70-200 F4 later this year and call it good. If I end up doing more portrait work later on down the road I might add the 85 1.8 as well.

I sold my 24-70GM in favor of the 24-105. Both lenses have their strengths and weaknesses but the 24-105 fits my needs better.

I don't want to bash the 24-70GM because it really is a very good lens, but there were two things that bothered me about it. It's weak at the long end, and that's where I mostly shoot. And, it always felt front heavy and out of balance on my A7RII.

The photo of the little girl on teh bench - is there striping on her face? Or is it me seeing things?

Nice, sharp shots Terry.

It will be interesting to see how the new Tamron compares.

Got mine that was tilted, but after having it serviced at Geissler in Germany (servicepartner for Sony) who did an brilliant job and I´m totally happy with it!!

The only thing that makes me think of also buying the 24-70 GM anytime is the fact that the 2.8 lens maybe would focus better in lower light.

IQ wise I like the 24-105 4G VERY much, absolutely stunning this lens!!
Vignetting and distortion is absolutely no problem "for me"! Zoom is a bit stiff and jerky, but that´s also no problem for me.

Impressive performance and indeed impressive shots. But, the capture has largely been in bright lighting conditions. I live in the UK and so I usually seek a faster kind of lens to help me handle the frequently not so bright lighting conditions but maybe I will make an exception. Best wishes with this lens. It should make a very good travel companion.

Very nice!

Doggone it. I'm in a quandary. I ordered the 24-105 and weeks went by. I then got wooed by the Tamron and cancelled the Sony.

Now, I'm thinking I made a mistake.

Maybe I should reverse that decision.

I cancelled my order and put my Tamron money to a brand new Sony RX10 mark IV (just ordered) for a bargain $2000 Au (4 day sale in Australia).

I'll use it as my backup "All in One" camera for travel, telephoto (up to 600mm), and occasional video, and I'll use my a7rii with prime lenses for higher quality, landscapes, lowlight and portrait shooting.

I reckon this combo will serve me better than adding the Tamron or Sony zoom to my collection.

This one was not in too bright conditions: ISO 2000 f4 1/50

I find constant f4 a good compromise Size/weight/performance/speed for a travel companion.

Indoors or if I kno I need a faster lense -> primes.

GM zoom don't answer, and are too expensive. If you need a light, small 2.8, there is the 28-75 Tamron, wich seems to have good review, perhaps laking a little at 75

for my go to zzom, 24mm and 105mm at f4 are more important than 2.8 from 28 to 75

Unless you really need 2.8 or can't afford the SonyI think you did make a mistake. The 24-105 is a remarkable lens.

Thanks for your response. I have considered and chosen not to buy the Tamron 28-75. I shoot outdoors mostly, particularly autumn and winter where the light is not great and so I rely on fast lenses, shooting at or around F1.4 - F2. But I think my main problem is that I like my primes more than anything else so compromise does not come easily.

Agree with you,

I use the zoom for events or familly walk, else is done wit primes,

but I was surprised at the IQ for a f4 zoom, good sharpness and good separation of the subject, so not real IQ loss from f4 or above, but with primes I generally shoot < f4 :) :)
