Haven't posted in awhile in this forum. I have been posting in the samples and gallery forum some underwater shots. Didn't think it would be appropriate to show those in here since they were shot with a camera that began with an N. Got my S2 out yesterday and went bug hunting outside with my Tamron sp180 lens...man I forgot how sharp this lens. I found a huge spider weaving a web around my hot tub and a grasshopper looking for some lunch in some of my plants.

comments appreciated and its nice to posting in here with all these new folks...

Tony,

The spider is awesome! One could develop arachnophobia when looking at it too long.

Great focus, great composition, and perfect oof background. I just love it. Not the spider, mind you.

Cheers!

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film.

Very nice, insects are so horrible, I am a beekeeper in my spare time, the bees look nice normally, when closeup they look nasty.

Hi Tony,

Been wondering where you've been. Nice to see you back.....and I'll have to check out the underwater shots over on S&G, too.

You're using that Tamron very well.....these shots have me interested in it again.

Good work, and thanks for posting.

Best wishes,

David

You should have some great shots of some bees then John if you are a Bee keeper. I bet you got some good tasting honey. You have to be amazed at the intelect then these real small animals have.

Thanks for the feedback...once you get used to the lens it is a keeper. I love the underwater stuff just don't think I want to drown my S2 yet. I just got a minolta 5400 dpi slide scanner that produces awesome scans. I had to build a new puter just to be able to handle the 100 meg files easily but it was well worth it. Here is a link to a page on pbase of some shots http://www.pbase.com/critter/bonaire

I don't know what to tell you about the lens other than it is as good or better in some respects than its little brother sp90. You don't have to get very close to a subject to have a 1:1 macro of it. It is a specially designed lens for digital slr's that was made by Tamron. It is fairly fast at F3.0. It comes with a hood and a ring at the end of the lens which allows you to turn a polarizer without reaching in front and physically turning the polarizer. You can go to manual focus by a ring on the lens quickly. Well and what can I say that it is sharp...it really helps to have a monopod on the lens to shoot with because of the size and weight and welll you just get better shots.

I have noticed there have been some focusing issues that folks are talking about and want to let you know this lens does not have those issues. It is a high grade lens and that is what the S2 likes to gobble up. The lens can be had for around 700 bucks online at B&H or adorama or canogacamera. It uses 77 mm filters...I think...

I guess not this year, I now have an allergic reaction to bee stings (not good), hopefully it will be ok for next season. I am on a program now to sort it out.
