E-M1 MARK II SD card door

Marc,

If you read my ‘report’ at the top of this sub-thread you will see my original thoughts on this matter

Since then my card door has loosened a little further, but still IMO it’s an annoyance rather than a problem.

One thing to note is the there are 2 latching tabs on the door which fit into rectangular sockets on the body when the door is latched.

One concern I have with your solution it that it might place some upward pressure on the door as it latches forcing the tabs to contact the upper edge of their sockets

I just examined my camera under a magnifying light and I can see that the top socket on my camera is showing some wear on the outer rim where the tab is making contact as I close the latch. And that action will be putting stress on the tab - flexing it as the latch locks. I’ve had 2 early model Olympus DSLRs where the tabs eventually broke off and I had to replace the doors.

Having noted this wear pattern I’ll now be putting a bit more closing pressure on the door before I press it forward into the latched position.

I was inspired by Marco's solution, and so on a used body I just picked up that had some minor play in the SD card door, I cut and placed tiny pieces of gaffer tape on the inside corners, as shown, and now it is rock solid. I can't say whether it affects weather sealing at all, but I strongly doubt it as it feels totally secure with no gaps and it closes with a secure sounding click.

Hello everyone,

I noticed that the SD card door on my E-M1 MARK II closes well and doesn't open easily, but there's a very slight take (hollowness) if I push on the bottom axis where the metal is when fully closed.

Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence down the line tbh... are they all built like that ?
Why not leave two high-capacity cards in it and unload them using WiFi or a direct PC connection?

I think the point is not so much the opening and closing, rather the somewhat cheap and distracting feeling of the door moving under your palm during use.

I am pretty sure you describe what I feel with my EM1.2 .

Guess it is either a batch or by design. I did not splash it yet, so I cannot comment on water tightness.
