Show Your Snaps...April 16, 2018

I believe that tree was probably some Elm tree variant, based on the seeds and leaves I found online.

I have a "thing" for water drops at the moment... so here's a few more:

This was one l managed to get last week:

And one from yesterday:

I didn't have much time to get out last week - these are two of the better shots.

The oleanders are putting on a show for spring.

The palo verde trees have really added the yellow blooms. Very pretty unless you're allergic to the pollen.

Very Nice Mizzou, can you send some of that green my way? I will deal with the pollen. :)

Hi Digirame, Thanks.

The day was sunny all day but the wind was cold, it's definitely warming up now though. This cold weather hasn't put a stop to the birds and wildlife although the wildflowers did slow up when we had the last snow.

Hi Rocket13, Thanks.

Love your Cardinal in the sleet/snow, no problems with noise in that picture even at ISO 5000, nice one.

Thanks Mocha, someday I hope to figure this all out. Today I did notice something important that I have been thinking was me and my settings all this time. When I was shooting today I could see "Noise " in my view finder. Of course not really noise but vapor in the air from the multiple ponds (30 ponds approximately 15 feet apart) so in actuality my camera is doing OK its recording what it sees. Go figure.

Without further ado here are some swallows for Digi, and some ring necks on the wing

Hey, that's cool. I like that. I hope you are able to get another photo when the bird comes back. Do you have a telephoto lens that you would use for the roadrunner?

I'm always impressed with your birds in flight. This spring and summer I'll have to find some swallows too.

Thanks. For these pictures I had the light at my back. That's why sometimes we can see some subtle very-dark-green-blue-purple colors too.

There are birds screens for sale. Or you can make one yourself. I was thinking of making one, like a tent with holes in it. Can you imagine all the fun we would have taking photos of wildlife when they were only about 10 to 100 feet away? I just have too many hobbies and other things to do and I take quite a variety of photos so I haven't done that. But it's a good thought; gotta keep it on the back burner. :-)

I like your wedding photo. They were both thinking about something. What may that have been? Your summer picture is nice. It's what we look forward to this time of year for us that live in the colder north part of the world. I often look at my summer pictures, when we are having dark and dreary weather in Oregon. It picks me up, thinking about all the light and warmth.

The white flowers look excellent with the dark background. That's great you are getting blooms. I like seeing those colorful tree blooms this time of year.

Oh yeah, those are a great combination of colors. That's something I haven't done but it looks challenging to get them just right.

This is as good as I can get with the Tamron 18-400 and lousy light. I'm learning how to use exposure compensation.. So I wind up with some kind of unrealistic image and no sky.. But.. hey.. I'm an artist, what can I say!!! ;)

Yes, Digirame, I have a 55-250 for my SL1 that I now have loaded and ready. He did not come back today, but instead I had some hummingbirds hit my feeder, but no picture. I will try to be ready for that also!

The colors are the easier part... nothing more than a placing an image in the background (one of a series of a picture I've printed and placed inside a clear plastic film to protect it from water). The hard part is getting the angle, focus, and depth of focus right, and a good/interesting shot.

The water spots on the clear plastic film protecting the image give loads of bokeh as water specks build up.

No special equipment beyond a camera, flash, macro lens, a water source, and something for the water to land on if you want to try and get splashes.

"Martian War Machine" (a bit of a stretch, and more in line with the old version of War of the World movie).

I've had photos like that before because of all the cloudy weather we get in Oregon. I say you are a great artist. :-)

That's great. We'll be watching to see if you are able to see the roadrunner again.

I like the glassy appearance of the water droplet. The reflection of the background colors in that drop of water looks good too.

Loving the water drops!

No sun again today and would have killed to have some on this shot.
