Hello:

I have been researching more details about this lens, and I am very interested in getting it, when (and if I can), in the Fuji X mount.

Does anyone here still use it - and have tips. samples to share they have taken (created), :-) - using this lens on their Fuji cameras?

Looking forward to hearing more about the lens and your experiences.

Thanks for your time,

Have a nice day -

Ed

I just bought one from Amazon on sale for $254. Regular price is supposedly $399, B&H has it for $279 right now. It's a good time to buy :-)

I've only taken a couple of test shots so far on my X-T1, so no samples or insights to post. So far it's looking very good and a great value at that price.

Sounds like a keeper... (I have not seen that price on Amazon)? When (how long ago) since you bought it?

Hello

I just bought it few days ago (270 eur) and new world opened to me; It is really a lot of fun. Here is one of the first pics when I was first time playing with it (SOOC) - unfortunately I do not remember what settings I was using and this is something I should get used to because it is full manual lens - no electronic contacts between the camera and the lens so not all info written in exif data. You can only set 12mm lens in the camera settings. If you do a bit of searching, you`ll find really excellent pics taken with this lens.

It is a keeper and I really like it.

Nice photo - thanks for sharing and your enthusiasm with the new lens. :-)

I have been reading reviews, articles online, watching YouTube videos, the "typical" things many of us photographers may do, during the period of pondering any interest in more / new / different gear. ;-)

Im also interested in this lense especially compared to the 10-24mm lense for landscape.

I can get the samyang 12mm for 1/3 the price, it's significantly smaller and I already have the 18-55mm so I'll only be missing out on 13-17mm.

TIP : Don't rotate the focus all the way to infinity as it does focus beyond infinity and you can end up with soft images. Keep the focus distance between the 1m and initial notch line marked on the barrell unless you want to do some close focus work say within 1m.

I couldn't recommend it high enough. For its price, it's a steal and a hidden gem of the Fuji X system.

I don't have examples ready at hand, but I find the lens to be small and light. It handles very well. I forget to switch between MF & AF sometimes, which is a small thing. Also, the back cap of the lens is very loose, which is strange because it fits my XF35/f2.0 very well. I need to keep it in place with a bit of blue painter's tape.

Because it's such a wide angle, it's easy to focus. Fuji's zebra stripe focus aid works very well. I take photos at f2.0 all the time and they mostly come out great. If not, it's because either I or the subject moved. At f2.0, you can take great portraits. Watch the deformations on the side, but it's fun to do self-group-portraits with (e.g. family).

As soon as you hit f5.6 or f8.0, DOF is nearly infinite. The lens is also really sharp at those apertures. Great for landscapes, cityscapes, ...

I would advise you to pick one up even when you're still in doubt. It's extremely cheap and quite versatile and I am having a lot of fun with mine. Afterwards you can still switch to fancy expensive Fuji glass, or you might come to realize (like me) that in the end, the humble Samyang is more than sufficient.

I have the Samyang and it has been a great performer. I don’t have samples readily available.

I’m preparing for another trip to Europe. Last time I took the 12mm and the 18-55. There were a few times I wished for something wider than 18 but not as wide as 12.

I visited Samy’s in LA and took sample images with my 12 and their 10-24. The photos were virtually indistinguishable. Of course, OIS and AF are very nice.

i now have a dilemma. Do I get the 10-24 that covers focal lengths I have already or do I go for the 55-200 to cover what I don’t have?

I just took a couple of test shots. Here is one from the Samyang 12 and the other from the XF18-55. They are both OOC JPG. Size reduced for upload with export from Lightroom 6, no other adjustments.

Nothing special set on the X-T1 - it just arrived yesterday :-) Film mode is Provia/Standard.

It's a mostly cloudy morning here and the lighting conditions changed slightly when I switched lenses.

I love the sharpness of the Samyang/Rokinon lenses. I had the Rokinon 8mm fisheye on my X-E1 and took excellent images with it. As others have said, set focus just short of the infinity mark (a sideways L), set aperture at f8 (unless you need bokeh) and fire away!

These were taken with the Samyang 12mm lens while on a hike with my Samsung NX500 before I switched to Fuji. It should be the same lens with a different mount. The first one is cropped.

Wow! Those are fantastic images. What a gorgeous location. It must have been inspiring to see in person. Thanks for posting those.

Thanks. My girlfriend and I were the only ones there. It was a loooooong hike to get to that mountain lake. We may or may not have taken all our clothes off and jumped in. If we did, the water would have been veeeeerrrrryyyy cold. ;)

I've been reading posts about this lens and seeing sample shots for a long time now. It seems to me to be a good match for the Fuji 14mm F2.8, at lower cost and without electronics.

I'm tending more and more to prefer fully manual lenses so I would buy it instead of the Fuji. ...someday.

As mentioned in another reply, check where infinity focus is. Mine is right on the mark but there could be some variation. If it is different, then just mark it or make or mental note.

I can attest to this, as my copy does the same. For a while, I was shooting with the lens as everyone suggests "just set to infinity on f8 and all your shots will be in focus!" Well, that certainly wasn't the case. I found where infinity truly was and saw the true sharpness of this lens!

Here is my favourite shot taken with the lens:
