Laowa 15mm f/2 Review with lots of Images.

Thank you for sharing.

The lens seems to work pretty well but I'm keeping my VC15 which is slower but much smaller.

Congratulations for the pictures you took with it, they are stunning!!

Very nice images Albert, and good write-up. You mention coma when the lens is used wide open. Does the coma improve at f2.8? Thanks.

Thanks Albert, the practical write up is appreciated and the images are phenomenal. :-)

I purchased the Laowa 15 f/2 some time ago but while I love wide angle photography I do not get the opportunity to use it as much as I should.

Thanks Pete! Hopefully in the future :)

Beautiful images and great review. Thank you for sharing!

Where were the aurora photos taken? Absolutely stunning location!

Great images.

Albert, you are an extraordinary photographer. As I happily own a 15mm Voigtlander III in M mount, I’m not in the market for this lens. But I sure am going to follow your imagemaking, because it’s among the best ever posted or linked here.

Inspirational! Thanks!

Thanks a lot Mordi! and the Voigt primes are great!

Hey guys,

I just published a review of this lens on my website. All reviews that were out were mostly tech reviews without much real world usage. My review is based on using this thing in the field.

Feel free to ask me anything here, and I'll answer in here :)
Thanks! And lovely images!

I started to use the FE16-35/4 mostly at 16 mm. I shot much sunsets. That zoom does well as long as one keeps the sun outside of the APS-C crop area, inside that it flares badly with a circle flare.

I got the Voigtländer 15 mm f4.5 instead. It is nice but vignettes a lot which makes the corners noisy when shadows are lifted.

I read this review earlier: https://phillipreeve.net/blog/rolling-review-laowa-15mm-2-0-zero-d/
Which complements yours nicely.

I still haven't decided if I should go over to the Laowa or stay with the Voigtländer 15 mm.

Nice picture you got there !!! I have been using my Laowa 15 F2 for months by now and I pretty echo everything your review said. it's becoming my favorite FE mount astro lens, I also own the Sigma 14/F1.8 Art it in my opinion this is almost as sharp. but with 72mm front thread makes use filter easy. one thing I wish it can do better is the Sunstar, it doesn't do as nice as the Voigtlander just just more like a Sony zoom.

M4/3 version of this lens has been my favorite. This one seems to be even better!

Can't wait to give it a go!

That is a fabulous review Albert and the imagery is staggeringly good.

i chose the Sigma Art 14 1.8

As you say its very large and heavy but

very sharp.

i am tempted to also get this lens for the weight and zero distortion. Corner stars with the Sigma are similar wide open, perhaps a bit better than yiur examples but not massively better. Distortion does make panoramas difficult.

thanks

Greg

The Sigma 14 1.8 has a lot of distortion?

This is the kind of reviews that I really appreciate. Excellent photos, and some crops for pixel peeping. From this, we should know very well what to expect from this fine lens. I find this much more helpful than those tech orientated reviews of different quality that floats around everywhere!

Also, nice to see your daylight and aurora night pictures from Lofoten, Norway. ;-)
